I always admired the Mustang LX as it is quicker, leaner and more agile over the Mustang GT model which has some extra weight and has a heavier look to it. The 5 speed manual mated with the 5.0 High Output V8 engine makes for an exciting driving experience.Mar 03, 2013

This is my 2nd FOX chassis car and is the same year as my first mustang. Both are 5.0L with 4 bbl carbs.
Power top works fine, but does have a bigger blind spot behind the rear 1/4 glass than a regular coupe.
Fuel economy is not bad, as long as you don't "Floor it" all the time.
Power from the V-8 is fine and the motor is stock ( 175hp)
Seeing as the car is almost 30 years old, it does need some seat upgrades for comfort.
The car was cheap to purchase and had suffered little from abuse ( most suffer a lot) But it has been a reliable car , with no major problems.

This is a very fun car to drive around town or on a long road trip. Great performance all around, very good gas mileage, extremely easy to work on and maintain. Do have some issues with interior though, requires alot of devotion to maintain the dash pad.Oct 30, 2011

Cost of ownership is very affordable. Very fun to drive. The performance is very
good for a bone stock car. All it has is a new exhaust which sounds sick. The car is

in 1983 ford released the 5.0 for the first time since the mid 70s they came stock in the mustang gt. at 180 horse it could have had more to offer but to the weight ratio of the car its a good balance, and let me tell you with the 5 speed standard its a quick car. handling is good but not outstanding tires and underbody sway bars and other customs have been added to make high speed handling much better. other than that it is completely stock, down to the original paint job and radio.it is a strong solid car that has needed very few repairs that were pretty easy to fix.beautiful inside and out .a true blast to drive Jul 13, 2011

great car lots of potential. not much pep from the 2.3l single barrel carburetor . non turbo is crap. auto is worthless. t-tops leak got outrun by Geo metro's and Suzuki swifts, very reliable not hard to work on if u get one get a 5.0 swap with a 9inch rear endOct 20, 2009

this car had a turbo engine as well so it really moved, especially over Logans Pass. 5 speed standard and hatchback made for a perfect combination of speed and function. gas mileage depended on how many races you had and it was a riot to drive!Oct 07, 2009

Had it since I was 17, Great performance with 88 GT 302 roller cam with all the goodies, Great appearance with the factory hood scoop and stripes, Very solid and sporty good handling, not cost effective especially with new 393 stroker motor going into it shortly...Very fun to drive!!Jul 01, 2009

i love my mustang it is my toy. it needs new paint and a
new top. its to loud shreds tires and is all but impossible to
drive in the rain. it only gets about 10 mpg. it is the first
foxbody with a 4 barrel carb. factory conv, they used a

it's a great car.i wish i didn't have to sell it . It's a GLX 5.0 convertible 4 speed with only 85,000 miles on it. Considering the car is 26 years old that's very low miles! It blue books for about $9000. I'm asking $5995.00. Any questions, give me a call -sorry i sold itFeb 10, 2009

it was a straight out muscle car i just wish mine had the 5 spd rather then the 4spd
was my first car i bought when i was 14 and did a motor swap for a 87 mustang gt motor so it had the rollar cams in it

I built this car replacing every nut and bolt. It has been the absolute best learning tool in my education of automobiles. Most of my business success is because of this car. It has been in two magazines so far and it has won many awards and trophies. This thing is a blast to drive. I do not even care about the 4 miles per gallon either!Sep 23, 2008

well i think my car built well, is fairly light so performance is great.needs a ;ittle tlc but what car that was made in 83 doesent? its not too bad on gas depends how you drive it :-) it is a hatchback so the room in back is also good.has a sunroof that is removable, cornering is good, braking is also not too bad. So far it's a piece...I bought cheap so it's a fixer
upper...one of the lifters isn't working properly so I
need to change that-and I will start on the 1st (when I
get paid next). It has a 302, so I'm happy, it does run,
but with the lifter messing up it's knocking, but
nothing terrible...other than the that the body is
rusting-so I'm gonna get to replace that too, and yeah
the interior needs work too, so I'll find out how to do

this pic looks much cooler than mine; it was a GL, not an LX and it had absolutely no power and handled like a boat
the only thing redeeming was that it had white vinyl seats with brown carpet and it was bright orange with a moonroof

We have an 83 Mustang GT. However, it has been completely gutted and rebuilt. It has an 8 point roll cage, racing seats, racing seat belts. Beefed up 302. NOT Street legal by a long shot. All drive train parts have been redone. Photo is a stock photo but close to actual car. Actual car is painted Orange/Black as anyone who went to school with us know were our school colors at Bath County High School, where our mascot was the Charger.Apr 17, 2008

So, it's a fox body stang, with the 302, (non roller, two piece rear main, missed it by a month {11/82 build date}) and the hilariously small SROD 4-speed.
It runs, it drives (barely) and it's rollin' on stock 14s. :: sigh ::

This car is actually a 1983 Fors Mustang GL. They didnt give me a GL option. HAs a 3.8 V6. A total of 112 horsepower. It has been beat on mercisessly by previous owners. I tried ti bring it back, but then ended its life on a slippery night out here in Michigan. Overall a very fun car, would have been more fun with 5.0 V8, but no complaints otherwise. Lasted longer than anyone expected, it never really wanted to die.Jan 02, 2008

I bought this car as a fix up project for my son and I to work on. Neither of us know much about cars so we thought we would learn together. It needs the front and rear bumper replaced,a new soft top and paint job. It runs well and is fun to drive. Any tips on how to improve performance would be welcome.Jun 20, 2007

I have a 1983 forrd mustang which has a v-6 engine and automatic transmission.. It is a rear wheel drive with 14 inch tires. The carberation and exhaust is all origional, It has relativley low miles as some one who owned it befor me did not drive it much. It has good power and consistent response with no hesitation durring exceleration. Down side, its rear wheel drive and it does not have the shure footednes of the front wheel drive mustang, I owned a 84 GT Mustang befor this one and it handled better in that department.Apr 14, 2007
