The performance or build quality needs no explanation, also the appearance must be quite familiar to every living creature on this damned planet. Owning one is not cheap, however tha car itsself is reasonably priced, its a hell of a gas guzzler, and cuz' of the age, parts are likely to go wrong,( but never the engine!) Yeah, so I'm just out of grad school, thinkin' I'm all that. So of course, I have to drive a car with a certain amount of cachet, right? Problem is, I've got no money so cachet cars are pretty much out of my reach. So this is the closest I could get...and although it is technically built by the company who brought you the 'Ultimate Driving Machine', it really isn't. Powered by an anemic little 1.8L 4-cylinder engine, the car didn't exactly sprint down the road and the 5-speed manual was somewhat sloppy compared to its more upscale bretheren. Also a bit more body roll that you'd expect but that is somewhat endemic to this generation of 3-Series (except for the original M3). But then again, in some ways it's still a BMW. Steering feel was superb--direct and linear. Interior layout and quality of materials was first-rate. And overall, you knew that it was just a well-engineered German car. Admittedly, I was a somewhat vain 20-something who thought he knew something about cars and wanted to drive something princely. But if truth be told, the 318 was always just a pretender to the throne. Served me right. Feb 25, 2009

pretty darn good car i actually have an 84 318i but it isn't an option on this app. not the fastest car out there but it def runs good enough and is really fun to drive and also gets really good gas mileage. the thing about this car is that you have to be a bmw fan to like it but if you aren't such a bmw fan, you should probably drive one and then you'll be one.Jul 19, 2008

12/1987 Bmw e30 318i M40B18 G240 Quite simply its a classic. Well, an M3 of that era is a *real* classic, but this is more realistic for a first car. its lightweight and modified with aftermarket shocks, springs, sticky tyres and lightweight racing wheels (boring the non technical people by now) to out-handle most cars half its age (its 21, two years my elder) and is a real driver's car. You cant make others understand the passion until they've given it a thrash down a twisty road. Its fantastic. Jul 17, 2008

BMW E30 320i de 1989, couleur "AlpinweissII", le magnifique blanc de BMW! Je l'ai achetée le 13 octobre 2007, suite à une transaction remportée sur Ebay. Elle avait alors quelques 254000kms, c'est à dire presque rien pour un 6 cylindres en ligne... moteur fabuleux, qui apporte à la fois du couple dans les bas régime (6 en ligne, quoi...), et a la faculté de prendre des tours du fait de ses caractéristiques de "supercarré" (alésage supérieur à la course), tout en distillant une musique magnifique et sans égal à mes oreilles. Et l'admission directe pour l'instant installée dessus n'altère en rien ses qualités de musicienne, pour mon plus grand bonheur. Bien entendu, c'est une propulsion, une vraie de vraie, pas bridée par l'électronique!... Donc avec un comportement pouvant au choix être très efficace ou... très joueur! Qualités récemment renforcées par le montage par mes soins d'un pont court équipé d'un différentiel autoblocquant... Les initiés apprécieront! Depuis son achat, je lui ai également offert des petites roulettes en 15' provenant de la maison BBS, dans le plus pur style origine et allemand. Niveau esthétique, elle a reçu avec les propriétaires précédents quelques touches de peinture blanche en plus, au niveau des rétros ainsi que du becquet de coffre. Les clignotants avant ont eux été changés par des exemplaires laqués de noirs, ce qui a pour effet de les faire "disparaitre" dans la baguette du pare-choc avant... J'adore!
