its a great first car because its easy to work with. The one i have is a good car but i cant get the thing to start i need help. i can turn it over and the belts and pullys turn over with no problem. i do have gas and oils yet it still will not turn over and run. i have a suspision it is the carburetor but i do not see any problems with it unless you have to have the oil bath top on when you turn it over. any help would be great

Bought this car in California in 1985 as a spare vehicle. Original color was kind of a dark tan but it was kind of ugly. Had it painted with an excellent paint job in 1989. It now is the color of Pistachio ice cream (Light Green) and really stands out. Paint is still good after 23 years of California, Chicago, and Florida weather.Jul 16, 2012

The VW Bug is an eye catcher and great conversational piece. It is excellent on gas mileage and very capable of getting you to your favorite beach and up mountains. I have enjoyed simply going out on Sunday drives to my favorite coffee cafe shop or favorite parks for a picnic.Jun 11, 2012

I was driving down Meadowbrook drive,I dont remember why I was way out there! And looked way down a driveway, and this little car was facing headlights toward the street.I came back later and paid the little old man cash! And it ran,and ran and ran!Dec 07, 2011

In the procces of rebuilding and having fun. Its my every day driver. I bought the car from a person that onln drove it 6,900 miles, and it sat untill I came and saved its life. These are by far the the must uncomplicated cars to work on. Dec 24, 2010

My beetle : the performance are bad and it has the worst braking have never seen but I LOVE IT !!! . It is a 42 years 's old machine and it is again alive , old volkswagens never die !!!!
Driving an old beetle is lke enter in another world and the smile on the face of people who pass is a real happiness

Aug 25, 2010

simple easy to work on. extensive aftermarket support. great people.
the performance is, well, terrible compaired to today's cars. altho, with the aftermarket support, these cars can be made to outperform most of the top sports cars. everybody either has owned a vw, or knows somebody that has, so the car is as much a conversation piece as transportationSep 29, 2009

My beetle is a baja bug modified for off roading. It takes a lot of work to keep it going through the rough terrain, but its worth it. The wife and I wanted somthing we could cruise around in together in the desert. And it is fun as hell.Aug 05, 2009

New project for 2009, a 1969 Beetle. It's a 1300 model, with a dechromed body, and in a good general shape for its age... The chassis will be rebuilt, new colour, updated interior, and a prepared engine. I want this car to be my daily driver, a classic California look from the late 70s.Feb 20, 2009

Bought this car in 2002 and it cost £600 - Approx £8k later and this is it now! Pic 1 shows the front suspension wound right down and narrowed beam, 20mm ground clearance!!! Images 2 shows rear wheels wound right down too!
Spent 2k on the interior seats from Bernard Newbury and the wheels cost £1k... oh and its now on its 3rd engine (they keep blowing up on me!!)
My baby, only comes out on sunny days hence its only done 30miles this year!!Jul 20, 2008

I guess it was ok in 1969 -- but by the time I bought it in 1982, it'd
seen it's last days. It stalled at traffic lights and then didn't run at all
after I gave it it's first tune-up thinking I could fix it :-) May 17, 2008
