I like the exhaust note of the 390 V8, doesn't compare to modern cars. Easy handling, great stopping power. Wish the paint wasn't faded, it would be a great cruiser with fresh paint, or a future hot rod candidate, or rat rod.Feb 15, 2014

I love this car and am looking forward to finishing the restoration and getting back to driving it..My Thunderbird has always given me smile each time I take it out for a spin. I have been using the Thunderbird again on a regular basis and as long as the sun is shining and no chance of rain I can be spotted in Sunset Beach.May 06, 2013

gone, but not forgotten. This was a great vehicle, although it took a lot of time and money to get it in driving condition. I think I will inspect any vehicle I purchase a bit more carefully.
This was a nightmare.Sep 03, 2012

More to follow after I drive it for a couple of hundred miles. Just got it and love it. I already have a standard but original coupe so the Special Landau is just an addition to my collection. So many cars... so little money.
I only use my collector cars for cruise-ins and shows. That is not an option in the drop down list below.Aug 22, 2011

I like the comfort, and the power of the 390 C.I. The styling is beautiful. When these cars were new and a few years after, they were basically good cars. The construction and fit of the car was better build quality than the Mustang another Ford product. It's competitor at the time was the Buick Riviera, which was a very well made car at the time. I think the Ford Thunderbird Hdtp. is under-rated and under-valued!Jul 22, 2011

This was a real jewel when it came out in 65. Front disk brakes, sequential tail lights and more. I had one when they were new and always regretted getting rid of it. I had always collected foreign cars and lost a 67 Jaguar XKE and a 87 Jaguar XJ6 in Katrina and said I would not ever buy another classic. Well, I lied. When this came up, I couldn't resist so here it is.
It is a road car, very comfortable, not real fast (0 to 60 in about 12 seconds) lousy gas mileage (7-10mpg) but gas was about 40 cents a gal in 65 and we never thought about it. I think it is one of the best body designs to come out of Detroit in the last fifty years. I have not had to do much to it but I am getting ready to re-chrome the bumpers and replace all the rubber bushings.
We, (my wife and I) enjoy cruising and car shows with it. Dec 30, 2010

Got me one of the 65 "jet birds". She's beautiful. She's my first car and I got her for only $3,200 with only 62,000 original miles! Not a thing wrong with her except the need for some new heads. I love the black leather interior, the swing away steering wheel, the big backseat and trunk. I like the 390 big block under the hood but the speed and acceleration it puts out leave alot to be desired. Im sure this is due to the sheer weight of the big car though. She rides smooth with a little wiggle to the steering thanks again to the size but there's not much else to really dislike. The fuel economy aint great but that's a small price to pay for such a beautiful classic and will probably improve with some new heads. Real tight car with no rattle and a nice roar when you rev her up. Turns heads and drops jaws with her baby blue paint.Oct 12, 2010

The Ford 390 engine block is large by today's standards but can't compete with the Chevy blocks of the same vintage. Nonetheless, unmodified stock this car is a ton of fun to drive and is the safest two-door detroit steel you can be in these days!Sep 09, 2010

Big block ford engine provided enough performance, but fuel economy was not good lol, but again its not the kind of car you buy for good mpg, Stunning looks, most parts still available, and a fun 60s luxury muscle car Aug 24, 2010

I like how i didn' t have to do any mods so that the 20's would fit. It's like they where made for it. I haven't gotten to drive the car yet because it's still in resto. My husband is working on his 62 Studebaker Lark, so mine got pushed to the side.Mar 05, 2010

Wish I had it running! Was purchased in 1983 by my dad. He told me if I made it through basic training the car was mine. Car is originally from Cali. He found in Florida. Has about 120K on it. Car turns over but needs a full engine overhaul. No rust. Im planning on doing a full restoration but the $ for parts for these cars are not cheap! 390c, rated @ 315hp. has the swing away steering wheel.1st year for the famous sequential taillights. Fell free to contact Chip Foose for me and tell him I could use some help!!Dec 12, 2008

I picked up this car and was really a basketcase! Since I've rebuilt the 390 motor and the tranny. Everything else under the hood has been updated and replaced. I've driven this car once, as I'm not done with it. The control, take off, braking and over-all ride is great! I love the lines on this car. It's classic yet could completely hot rod out. I've put about $11k into the car so far. I'm happy with what's gotten done. Just need to finish paint and interior.Jul 22, 2008

The 50's and 60's is when they made real cars. Thundebird has a great history unlike a car of today which might last 2-3 generations, if that!Apr 19, 2008

The 65` T-Bird was my Second of this model bought in 2006, after I`d bought a 76` "BIG BIRD", and although I`ve had problems with the car ALL being due to the previous owners inability to finish the work he started, I have come to appreciate the styling, design, and other additions fitted as "Standard" such as the sequential indicator lights, and movable steering wheel etc. No matter where I park there are always "LOTS" of interest in the car. Most, if not all, of those seeing the car comment on how a car made over Fourty Years ago can look so "Good or Modern" for its age. The car has had lots of work done to it, most being done prior to my buying it, and I have spent well in excess of £5,000 on her since 2006 and am at present still spending on parts needed. Was it worth it? I`d say "YES" it is, as when taking the car to shows around the country it has proved to be a good tool in getting to meet and make many new friends. I also get asked, as recently for a childrens hospice, to take the car to fund raising events for different charities and this is just one of the many reasons behind my just "LOVING" the car. I feel the car is one of those made by Ford which deserves to be saved and kept on the road, and when coming to sell her I know the new owner will get a pretty good car that he or she will not need to spend out great amounts of cash on, as I`ve done, in order to enjoy the car as much as I do.
