My Mom’s first brand new car was a 1963 VW Beetle. She let me drive it when I got my drivers license in 1968. Went around a corner to fast and rolled it over into a tree. Guy in truck helped me flip it over and I drove it home! Crushed ever gender and cave in part of roof. She said I’d never drive again!Oct 06, 2023

I just love driving this car. Years ago (1960's) I had three of them (various years). About 7 tears ago I found a 1963 which was restored mechanically but otherwise was a real survivor. It was a one-owner with about every receipt for any work that had ever been done on it. Even though it is now 50 years old, I can drive it anywhere and with no worries. Since it's air-cooled I never have to worry about leaks in the cooling system or possible freezing in the winter. I love the sounds of a classic VW. When I drive it (I use it for long road trips when it's just me going) I just feel happy, as if it's at least 30 years ago. It's easy to park, gets great gas mileage, and starts conversations with everyone who has ever driven or wanted to own one.Jul 29, 2013

This was a semi-automatic and was interesting to drive. You skipped 1st gear altogether if you wanted to move and just go into 2nd gear. You would just look at it and it would get a dent! Eng always needed work. But it was a free ride when I needed.Aug 30, 2009

Performance - acceleration, braking, handling- good power but drum brakes were not tht powerful
Build Quality - has it needed repairs-no squeaks/rattles -no
Appearance - both interior and exterior styling classic orignal seats and interior
Cost of Ownership - gas mileage-10/12 , maintenance quite a bit
Fun Factor - is this car fun to drive-good power
