2020 Toyota Prius Prime Limited

I take mostly short trips and can stay in all electric mode most of the time. I only have 4600 miles on my car and the 12 volt battery went dead and had to be replaced. Why did this happen?

The 12 volt battery on our 2017 Prius Prime died twice. Charged using cables both times, but then decided to put in new battery the second time. How is the 12v battery being charged?
