What should I look for when buying a used Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: City Safety, Pilot Assist, a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, blind-spot information system, intersection auto brake, and large animal detection.
• Infotainment: A vertical touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Google Built-In on the newest model year.

Which Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 offers these trims:

• Core: The entry point, with the B6 mild-hybrid powertrain, standard AWD, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the standard 10-speaker High Performance stereo; it suits buyers who want the XC90 experience at the lowest price.
• Plus: Adds more equipment over Core and is the best-value trim for many shoppers, especially if you want a richer feature set without moving to the top tier.
• Ultra: The most premium trim, adding the head-up display, 14-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Sound system, and the most upscale interior materials; it suits buyers who want the fullest luxury experience.

What Volvo XC90 do most buyers choose?

The Volvo XC90 years with the most listings are 2025, 2023, and 2024.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, colour, and price. They also often line up with newer features and broader market interest.

What is the Volvo XC90's resale value?

Most XC90 model years are down year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used and want to benefit from softer pricing. The largest drops are in the older model years, while the newest years are falling by smaller amounts. That pattern suggests recent inventory is still holding more of its value than older examples.

The 2023, 2024, and 2025 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Volvo XC90 safe?

• 2025: 8/10
• 2024: 6/10
• 2023: 9/10

• 2021: 9/10

The 2025 Volvo XC90 includes standard advanced driver-assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, blind-spot information system, intersection auto brake, and large animal detection.

Should I buy a used Volvo XC90 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −14.94% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −13.89%.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The B6 uses turbo- and e-supercharging to produce up to 295 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, while the T8 adds an electric motor and an 18.8-kWh battery pack for 455 hp and 523 lb-ft of torque.
• Tech: Apple CarPlay connectivity is standard and works wirelessly and via USB-C cable, while the top-end Ultra package adds a head-up display.
• Safety: The latest model includes standard advanced driver-assistance systems that operate smoothly, along with active collision-avoidance features such as intersection auto brake and large animal detection.
• Starting price: Base MSRP for the least-expensive version sits at $80,452 CAD in Canada including destination charges and fees.

If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
