For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most worth watching on older examples and plug-in hybrid versions, where age, battery wear, and maintenance complexity can matter more.

What should I look for when buying a used Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: City Safety, Pilot Assist, a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, blind-spot information system, intersection auto brake, and large animal detection.
• Infotainment: A vertical touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Google Built-In on the latest model.

Which Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 offers these trims:

• Core: The entry point, with the B6 mild-hybrid powertrain, standard AWD, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the standard 10-speaker High Performance stereo; it suits buyers who want the XC90’s core luxury and safety experience.
• Plus: Adds more equipment over Core and is the best-value choice for shoppers who want a richer feature set without moving to the top tier.
• Ultra: Brings the most premium cabin and tech experience, including the 14-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Sound system and a head-up display, and suits buyers who want the most upscale XC90.

What Volvo XC90 do most buyers choose?

The Volvo XC90 years with the most listings are 2025, 2023, and 2024.

These higher-volume years tend to be the easiest places to shop because you get more choice in trims, colours, and pricing. They also usually attract more cross-shopping, which can help keep deal percentages competitive.

What is the Volvo XC90's resale value?

The table shows broad downward movement across the XC90 lineup, which is good news if you’re shopping used. Several years have seen double-digit price drops, and the steepest declines are concentrated in older model years.

The smallest year-over-year changes are still negative, so values are easing rather than rising. That creates a favourable buying environment if you want a luxury SUV with a softer used price than its original sticker.

The 2023, 2021, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Volvo XC90 safe?

• 2025: 8/10
• 2024: 6/10
• 2023: 9/10
• 2022: 9/10
• 2021: 9/10

The 2025 Volvo XC90 includes standard advanced driver-assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, blind-spot information system, intersection auto brake, and large animal detection.

For the safest used buy, the 2021, 2022 and 2023 models all post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
