What should I look for when buying a used Subaru BRZ?
Key things to evaluate:
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada fuel consumption ratings for the 2022 Subaru BRZ are 9.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined (11.0 city, 7.7 highway) with the automatic transmission and 10.5 L/100 km combined (12.0 city, 8.8 highway) with the manual transmission.
- Infotainment: A standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster replace the previous 7-inch touchscreen and analog gauges, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio are standard as well.
- Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist technology is standard on automatic-transmission models, and the BRZ Sport-tech adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, steering responsive LED headlights, and reverse automatic braking on automatic-transmission Sport-tech models.
Which Subaru BRZ trim should I buy?
The 2022 Subaru BRZ offers these trims:
- BRZ: The base model brings the 2.4-litre boxer-four, a standard six-speed manual gearbox, 17-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Primacy tires, cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the standard 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio. It suits you if you want the most affordable way into the BRZ lineup.
- BRZ Sport-tech: This trim adds 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, Ultrasuede upholstery with red accent stitching, dual-mode heaters, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, steering responsive LED headlights, and reverse automatic braking on automatic-transmission models. It stands out as the best-value trim if you want the fullest mix of comfort, style, and safety equipment.
What Subaru BRZ do most buyers choose?
The Subaru BRZ years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2022.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 71 | 31% |
| 2023 | 64 | 28.1% |
| 2022 | 42 | 14.3% |
| 2025 | 39 | 41% |
| 2019 | 31 | 32.3% |
| 2018 | 26 | 26.9% |
These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right colour, trim, and price. They also tend to attract shoppers looking for newer features and broader availability.
What is the Subaru BRZ's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2016 | $16,422 CAD | −18.51% |

| 2020 | $24,063 CAD | −2.97% |
| 2022 | $27,494 CAD | +1.06% |
Most BRZ model years in this snapshot are down year over year, which can work in your favour if you want a used sports car at a softer price. One model year is up slightly, while several others are posting declines of varying size, including one sharp drop. Overall, the pattern points to better buying opportunities on recent used examples than on many other years.
The 2022, 2020, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Subaru BRZ safe?
- 2022: 7/10
The BRZ gets Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist technology for the first time on automatic-transmission models, and the BRZ Sport-tech adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, steering responsive LED headlights, and reverse automatic braking on automatic-transmission Sport-tech models.
For the safest used buy, the 2022 model posts the highest confirmed score of 7/10.
Should I buy a used Subaru BRZ now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2024 model is at −8.6% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −4.24%.
- Deal availability: The 2024 model has 31% good and great deals, and the 2023 model has 28.1%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $30,957 CAD. The Subaru BRZ offers a playful, driver-focused character that makes it especially appealing if you want a sports car that feels engaging every day.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The latest BRZ uses a Subaru boxer-four engine with Toyota’s D-4S fuel-injection system, makes 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and can still rev to 7,000 rpm.
- Tech: A standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster replace the previous 7-inch touchscreen and analog gauges, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio are standard as well.
- Safety: Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist technology arrives for the first time on automatic-transmission models, and the BRZ Sport-tech adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, steering responsive LED headlights, and reverse automatic braking on automatic-transmission Sport-tech models.
- Starting price: Pricing for the 2022 Subaru BRZ starts at an MSRP of $29,495 CAD for the base trim level with the manual transmission.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

For RWD sporty car you can't go wrong with this car, it's hard to beat the price, in the low 30k range out the door, it's still got a REAL hand brake, and very fun to drive

It’s a cute little car, virtually no space in it, but loads of fun. The internet is right, this is a pretty slow car, but if you’re coming from an economy car it’s not too bad. I’d say it’s the perfect second car.

I love the features in this car, it’s all good to access on the go! I’d like to think this car is a good value otherwise I would’ve went with another option. This beauty has everything that I was looking. I’d compare this model with Toyota GR86.
