What should I look for when buying a used Mazda CX-50?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a driver attention monitor, and automatic high beams.
- Infotainment: the 10.25-inch horizontal infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Which Mazda CX-50 trim should I buy?
The 2025 Mazda CX-50 offers these trims:
- GS-L: The base hybrid trim brings the 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid powertrain with 219 horsepower, 163 lb-ft of torque, all-wheel drive, and the 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It suits you if you want the hybrid’s efficiency and core CX-50 character at the entry point.
- GT: This trim adds the 12-speaker Bose premium audio system and is the best-value choice if you want a more upscale feel without moving to the top of the range.
- Hybrid GT: The range-topping hybrid trim adds the most premium equipment in the lineup, including red leather upholstery exclusive to the hybrid model, and suits you if you want the most richly appointed CX-50.

The Mazda CX-50 has garnered positive feedback from owners across its model years, praised for its stylish design, high-quality interior, and impressive performance, particularly with the turbo engine. Many appreciate the spacious cargo area and the modern infotainment system. However, some drivers mentioned a stiff ride and firm seats as drawbacks, along with a less powerful non-turbo engine that leaves room for improvement in the driving experience.

Great solid suv. Coming from a CX5 it feels like it is more nimble and responsive although not a dramatic change in the engine. Fit and Finish is excellent.

Fantastic, modern, fun to drive. Don’t really like the information screen in your face, I prefere the Subaru screen. Having said that, we own a Subaru outback 3.6 r. The Subaru is more comfortable for long journeys, the Cx50 is more sporty and firmer ride! This I think will be our next car.

overall
We rate the Mazda CX-50 as one of the best compact SUVs, and for 2025 it gets even better with an efficient hybrid powertrain.
The 2025 Mazda CX-50 is one of two compact SUVs in the automaker's portfolio, sitting below the bigger Mazda CX-90 and Mazda CX-70 and above the CX-30 subcompact crossover in the automaker’s lineup. It joined the existing Mazda CX-5 in 2023 rather than replacing it, which was an odd decision considering their similarities. Nevertheless, just like the Mazda3 sedan and hatchback and the MX-5 sports car, they're the fun yet refined choice in the class. The 2025 Mazda CX-50's new hybrid powertrain adds fuel efficiency to the mix, giving it an edge over its CX-5 sibling.
Verdict: The 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid brings a potent yet efficient powertrain to an already sporty SUV. Combined with attractive styling and a near-luxury interior, it would be hard to beat if it weren't for its limited passenger and cargo spa
