What should I look for when buying a used Ford Maverick?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control with lane-centring and stop-and-go functions, and automatic high beams are standard on the base XL, while blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and lane-departure warning are optional.
- Infotainment: Sync 4 infotainment with a standard 13.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid returns an impressive Natural Resources Canada-estimated 6.2 litres per 100 kilometres combined (5.6 city, 6.7 highway). XL, XLT, and Lariat models with the 2.0-litre turbo-four engine are rated at 9.4 L/100 km combined (10.6 city, 7.8 highway). Combined fuel economy in the Lobo is 9.7 L/100 km (11.2 city, 7.8 hwy), while the Maverick Tremor is rated at 10.1 L/100 km combined (11.2 city, 8.7 hwy).
Which Ford Maverick trim should I buy?
The 2025 Ford Maverick offers these trims:
- XL: The base trim brings the standard 13.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a simple, functional cabin; it suits buyers who want the Maverick’s core utility and the lowest entry point.
- XLT: This trim adds a step up in equipment and 17-inch alloy wheels, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers who want more polish without moving too far up the range.
- Lariat: This trim adds 19-inch alloy wheels, a gloss-black grille, and standard Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, making it a strong fit if you want more convenience and towing tech.
- Tremor: This off-road model adds dedicated suspension tuning, all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, skid plates, and a twin-clutch rear drive unit for its AWD system.
- Lobo: This performance-focused trim adds a lowered suspension, a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, dual-piston front brake calipers, an upgraded cooling system, a track-focused drive mode, and torque-vectoring hardware.
What Ford Maverick do most buyers choose?
The Ford Maverick years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 250 | 34% |
| 2023 | 238 | 33.6% |
| 2025 | 208 | 37% |
| 2022 | 154 | 31.8% |
| 2026 | 124 | 37.1% |
| 2027 | 35 | 37.1% |
Higher-listing years usually draw more attention because they give you more choice on trim, price, and equipment. They also tend to be easier to compare side by side, which helps you find the right balance of value and features.
What is the Ford Maverick's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | $32,862 CAD | −8.38% |
| 2024 | $36,699 CAD | −7.23% |
| 2025 | $41,627 CAD | −6.83% |
| 2022 | $29,535 CAD | −6.23% |
Prices are down across every model year shown, which is good news if you are shopping used. The declines are fairly close together, so newer and older examples are all moving lower at a similar pace. That creates a broad buying window rather than a single standout year for price stability.
The 2022, 2025, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Ford Maverick safe?
- 2025: 6/10
- 2023: 7/10
- 2022: 7/10
Forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control with lane-centring and stop-and-go functions, and automatic high beams are standard on the base XL.
For the safest used buy, the 2022 and 2023 models both post the highest confirmed score of 7/10.
Should I buy a used Ford Maverick now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −6.83% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −7.23%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 37% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 34%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $36,699 CAD. The Ford Maverick offers a compact, easy-to-live-with truck shape that still delivers real utility for city driving and light hauling.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The standard hybrid powertrain is now available with front-wheel drive (FWD) or AWD, while the non-hybrid powertrain is AWD-only; the hybrid uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine running on the Atkinson cycle, working with a single electric motor and continuously variable transmission (CVT), and it produces 191 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque.
- Tech: The Sync 3 infotainment system has been replaced with the current Sync 4 system, a standard 13.2-inch touchscreen replaces the previous eight-inch touchscreen, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard as well, along with a new 8-inch digital instrument cluster.
- Safety: Forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control with lane-centring and stop-and-go functions, and automatic high beams are standard on the base XL, and a 360-degree camera system is a new addition to the option list for 2025.
- Starting price: For 2025, Maverick pricing starts in Canada at $36,995 for a basic XL hybrid with FWD, steel wheels, and manually adjusted mirrors.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

4.5 Overall rating
Customers say
The Ford Maverick has garnered a positive reputation among owners across its various model years, particularly for its practicality, good value, and performance. Many drivers appreciate the hybrid option and fuel efficiency in newer models, along with the compact size that makes it ideal for city driving. However, some complaints arise about limited rear seating space and occasional dealer markups above MSRP. Older models are praised for their fun driving experience and solid build quality, but they come with a few maintenance concerns. Overall, the Maverick is seen as a versatile choice, balancing utility and economy with a touch of nostalgia for classic enthusiasts.

The truck is basic by 2025 standards. But I really like it. Does everything I need. Currently getting 45.1 miles per gallon

Economical with hybrid engine. AWD available and also Lariat trim. Short bed. 4 doors. CVT. Compare to Honda Ridgeline and Hyundai Santa Cruz.

Although I’ve only owned for about a month, I haven’t found anything that I don’t like about this truck. Comfortable, easy to maneuver, responsive and economical to run, I think it will work well for me. I don’t need a powerhouse or heavy hauler, just something for the occasional lumber yard run. I’ve added about 1000 miles with the average mpg at 40.2. Love that hybrid engine, I was hoping for good mileage but was really happy to see real results.

Love it! Rides like a dream. Has all the new features, gets great mileage. Seats in Fords are super comfortable. Back seat is roomy. Large glove box, lots of storage, sunglasses holder. Reverse camera. Very similar to an Explorer Sport Trac we loved.

Ford Maverick test drive
overall

The Ford Maverick lineup grows for 2025, as do prices.
The Ford Maverick really shook up the pickup-truck market when it arrived as a 2022 model. Ford’s compact pickup utilizes the same basic platform as the Escape and Bronco Sport crossovers, but it offers real truck capability and a hybrid powertrain to boot. The 2025 model features styling and tech updates, but the biggest news is a Maverick Lobo performance variant and an all-wheel drive (AWD) hybrid, so that’s what we focused on for this first drive.
Verdict: The Maverick is still a great vehicle, but it’s not quite the bargain it once was.
