What should I look for when buying a used Volvo XC90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: City Safety, Pilot Assist, and a 360-degree camera system.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the vertical touchscreen infotainment system.

Which Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 offers these trims:

• Core: The entry trim brings the B6 mild-hybrid powertrain, standard AWD, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the standard advanced driver-assistance suite; it suits you if you want the most accessible way into the XC90 lineup.
• Plus: This package adds more equipment and is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it builds on the Core with a stronger feature set without moving all the way to the top tier.
• Ultra: This trim adds the most premium cabin and tech touches, including the head-up display and upgraded audio options, and it suits you if you want the most upscale XC90 experience.

What Volvo XC90 do most buyers choose?

The Volvo XC90 years with the most listings are 2025, 2023, and 2024.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, colour, and price. They also often sit close to the sweet spot between newer features and used-car value.

What is the Volvo XC90's resale value?

Most XC90 model years are down year over year, which is good news if you want to buy used after the steepest part of the price drop has already happened. The largest declines are concentrated in older and mid-cycle years, while the newest recent models are also easing lower. A few years are falling by a smaller amount, which suggests stronger demand for those versions.

The 2023, 2016, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Volvo XC90 safe?

• 2025: 8/10
• 2024: 6/10
• 2023: 9/10
• 2022: 9/10
• 2021: 9/10

The 2025 Volvo XC90 includes standard advanced driver-assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, and the blind-spot information system.

For the safest used buy, the 2021, 2022 and 2023 models all post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.

Should I buy a used Volvo XC90 now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −15.98% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −12.88%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 29.8% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 31.1%.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The XC90 offers a B6 mild hybrid with up to 295 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, plus a T8 plug-in hybrid with 455 hp, 523 lb-ft of torque, and up to 53 kilometres of pure electric range.
• Tech: The XC90’s infotainment system brings a larger touchscreen with sharper resolution, Google Built-In, Apple CarPlay, and a head-up display on the Ultra package.

• Starting price: The least-expensive version starts at $80,452 CAD in Canada including destination charges and fees.

If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
