Is the Toyota Tundra a good car?
Yes — the Toyota Tundra earns strong owner approval across its model years, and the newest expert notes reinforce its appeal as a capable, well-equipped full-size truck. The all-generations owner rating is 4.6/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners repeatedly praise the Tundra for its powerful engines, spacious interiors, smooth ride, and reputation for reliability. The truck also stands out for its strong towing and hauling capability, plus a comfortable, practical cabin that suits everyday use and long-term ownership.
Expert reviews rate the 2023 and 2022 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs across recent expert-tested years centre on polarising styling, fuel economy, and some interior materials that feel less polished than you might expect at this price point. Some versions also place more emphasis on capability and technology than on outright value.
31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Toyota Tundra models reliable?
Owners consistently describe the Toyota Tundra as durable, dependable, and well suited to long-term ownership. Expert and owner feedback also points to strong performance, a smooth ride, and a truck that feels built for the long haul.
- Owners rate the Toyota Tundra between 4 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, the long-term ownership picture is generally favourable, especially if you choose a well-maintained example with a clear service history.
What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Tundra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, with a pre-collision system, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automated lane centring, and automatic high beams.
- Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen with Toyota’s native infotainment system, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Which Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?
The 2025 Toyota Tundra offers these trims:
- SR: The entry point, with the standard twin-turbo 3.4-litre V6, 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Toyota Safety Sense 2.5; a strong starting point if you want the core Tundra experience.
- SR5: Adds more everyday convenience and is a sensible value step up for buyers who want a better-equipped truck without moving too far up the price ladder.
- Limited: Brings a more upscale feel and is a good fit if you want extra comfort and features for daily driving.
- Platinum: Adds more luxury-oriented equipment and suits buyers who want a more premium cabin.
- 1794 Edition: Focuses on a distinctive upscale character and is aimed at shoppers who want a more expressive, comfort-first Tundra.
- TRD Pro: The off-road-focused trim, with 18-inch TRD off-road wheels, all-terrain tires, Bilstein shocks, skid plates, an electronically controlled locking rear differential, Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, and Downhill Assist Control.
- Capstone: The top-end trim, with the most premium equipment and the broadest feature set for buyers who want the most luxurious Tundra.
What Toyota Tundra do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Tundra years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 373 | 33.2% |
| 2023 | 336 | 34.2% |
| 2025 | 323 | 34.1% |
| 2022 | 185 | 32.4% |
| 2026 | 148 | 33.8% |
| 2021 | 96 | 36.5% |
Those higher-volume years tend to be the easiest to shop because you have more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right trim and price. They also tend to attract the broadest mix of buyers, which helps keep selection strong.
What is the Toyota Tundra's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $60,275 CAD | −14.9% |
| 2024 | $54,995 CAD | −13.87% |
| 2018 | $34,883 CAD | −13.25% |
| 2022 | $46,996 CAD | −12.77% |
| 2020 | $45,066 CAD | −9.66% |
| 2016 | $29,489 CAD | −7.86% |
| 2023 | $50,844 CAD | −7.13% |
| 2021 | $46,864 CAD | −6.72% |
| 2014 | $25,354 CAD | −2.11% |
| 2015 | $29,510 CAD | +2.34% |
| 2017 | $37,243 CAD | +5.59% |
| 2019 | $43,065 CAD | +5.74% |
Most model years in this set are down year over year, and several recent ones have seen double-digit drops. That creates better opportunities for used buyers, especially if you are shopping newer trucks. A few older years are moving in the opposite direction, which shows that some Tundra model years continue to command strong demand.
The 2019, 2017, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.

Customers say
The Toyota Tundra has consistently impressed owners over the years with its powerful engines, spacious interiors, and reputation for reliability. Drivers appreciate the smooth ride and capability of this truck, especially for towing and hauling. Many highlight its durability and strong performance across various conditions. However, some common complaints include less-than-ideal fuel economy and outdated technology compared to competitors. The Tundra's build quality and comfort remain strong selling points, but higher prices and certain features being lacking have caused some hesitation among buyers.

It's 2025 and across all makes new trucks have become incredibly expensive and surprisingly fragile. However, we found this preloved 2.5 gen Tundra and while even with a lot of miles already on it, we expect it to last and last. Plus it was way more affordable! This truck is a dream to drive, has very sure handling, capable stopping, and nice interior appointments. With plenty of room and the 4x4 at the twist of a knob, we can go anywhere! The longer bed holds enough and it can even tow the space shuttle whenever needed! We have found the 2014 Tundra to be a great value and a joy to own. It fulfills our truck requirements confidently and comfortably! Try it, you'll love it!

CarGurus recommends the 2023 Toyota Tundra

Summary
With 327 currently listed for sale and an average price of $50,850 CAD, 32.4% of 2023 Toyota Tundra listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Toyota Tundra 4.83 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota Tundra stands out as a more advanced and efficient take on a full-size pickup. Toyota moved it away from an older formula and into a new generation with a fresh look, a much more modern powertrain, and a full technological makeover, while keeping things largely the same for 2023. That combination gives the truck a strong appeal for buyers who want familiar pickup capability with a more contemporary feel.
Its strengths are easy to see in the available test-drive notes: multiple powertrain options, impressive technology, and good value for money. Owners also tend to praise the powerful engine, comfortable interior, smooth ride, stylish appearance, and fuel efficiency. At the same time, the Tundra is not without drawbacks, since its design may be polarizing and not all safety features are standard.
