What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Corolla?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the gas-only Toyota Corolla at 6.7–6.8 litres per 100 kilometres combined, depending on the trim. That’s reasonably efficient, but you can save even more money on fuel by choosing the Toyota Corolla Hybrid. With FWD, it achieves fuel economy ratings of 4.7 L/100 km combined. Add on the available AWD, and those ratings go up slightly to between 4.9 and 5.3 L/100 km, depending on trim.
• Infotainment: Toyota now offers a larger 10.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the Corolla XSE, and in addition to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Toyota provides complimentary trial subscriptions to numerous helpful plans.
• Safety package: Toyota equips every 2025 Corolla with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0) collection of driver assistance systems.

Which Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota Corolla offers these trims:

• Corolla: The entry version focuses on the Corolla’s core strengths, with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, and the model’s familiar easygoing character.
• SE: This is the sweet spot in the lineup. It adds a sportier character and avoids the plain vanilla look of the base Corolla trims, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• XSE: This trim adds the larger 10.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system and brings the most upscale-feeling cabin presentation in the range.
• Hybrid: This version adds the Corolla Hybrid powertrain for better fuel efficiency and suits buyers who want to prioritise lower fuel use.
• GR Corolla: This performance hatchback adds all-wheel drive, a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, and a manual transmission for buyers who want the most dramatic Corolla experience.

What Toyota Corolla do most buyers choose?

The Toyota Corolla years with the most listings are 2021, 2023, and 2022.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a strong mix of availability, newer features, and pricing that still sits below the newest model years. They also make it easier to compare listings and find the right trim or equipment level.

What is the Toyota Corolla's resale value?

Most Corolla model years in the table are down year over year, and several of the newer ones show double-digit declines. That pattern can work in your favour as a used buyer because it opens up more room to find value in recent model years. The smaller declines in the older years suggest those versions have been moving more steadily.

The 2016, 2015, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
