What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Corolla?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, with forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane centring assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam headlights, and a road sign recognition system.

• Infotainment: a larger 10.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the gas-only Toyota Corolla at 6.7–6.8 litres per 100 kilometres combined, depending on the trim. That’s reasonably efficient, but you can save even more money on fuel by choosing the Toyota Corolla Hybrid. With FWD, it achieves fuel economy ratings of 4.7 L/100 km combined. Add on the available AWD, and those ratings go up slightly to between 4.9 and 5.3 L/100 km, depending on trim.

Which Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota Corolla offers these trims:

• Corolla: The entry point focuses on the Corolla’s core strengths, and it suits you if you want the simplest path into the lineup.
• LE: This trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• SE: This trim adds a sportier character and avoids the plain vanilla look of the base Corolla trims.
• XSE: This trim adds the larger 10.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system and suits you if you want the most advanced cabin tech in the lineup.

What Toyota Corolla do most buyers choose?

The Toyota Corolla years with the most listings are 2021, 2023, and 2022.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a wider selection of examples to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, mileage, and condition. They also sit close enough to the current generation to offer modern features while still being priced below the newest examples.

What is the Toyota Corolla's resale value?

Most Corolla model years in this table are down year over year, which can work in your favour if you're shopping used. The newer examples show some of the largest drops, while older years are also moving lower at a steadier pace. That pattern suggests there are opportunities across the range, especially if you are flexible on model year and trim.

The 2016, 2014, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
