What Tesla Model Y do most buyers choose?
The Tesla Model Y years with the most listings are 2022, 2023, and 2021.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 297 | 25.6% |
| 2023 | 287 | 25.4% |
| 2021 | 190 | 24.7% |
| 2024 | 178 | 27.5% |
| 2025 | 80 | 23.8% |
| 2020 | 73 | 27.4% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, price, and condition. They also often sit in the sweet spot between newer features and more accessible used pricing.
What is the Tesla Model Y's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | $31,825 CAD | −11.41% |
| 2023 | $42,496 CAD | −9.23% |
| 2021 | $34,833 CAD | −7.58% |
| 2024 | $47,573 CAD | −6.74% |
| 2022 | $40,923 CAD | −6.35% |
| 2025 | $53,237 CAD | −5.49% |
All of the listed model years are down year over year, which creates more room for used buyers to find value. The largest drops are in the older and mid-cycle years, while the newest versions have seen smaller declines. That pattern suggests recent Model Y inventory has softened, but not evenly across every year.
The 2025, 2022, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Should I buy a used Tesla Model Y now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −5.49% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −6.74%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 23.8% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 27.5%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2022 model has the most listings at a current average price of $40,923 CAD.
If you're buying used today, the 2022 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the newest version, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

CarGurus recommends the 2022 Tesla Model Y
Summary
With 263 currently listed for sale and an average price of $40,893 CAD, 23.2% of 2022 Tesla Model Y listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Tesla Model Y 4.8 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Tesla Model Y stands out as a compact luxury crossover that blends SUV practicality with Tesla’s familiar minimalist approach. It is based on the Tesla Model 3 and shares 70% to 75% of its parts, yet it is slightly longer, wider, and notably taller, with coupe-like styling and a rear hatch that adds versatility. That shape gives it a roomy feel, and the Model Y’s cargo space is helped by under-floor storage in the rear and a front trunk.
For 2022, the Model Y’s appeal is rooted in its standard equipment and electric performance. It came with standard AWD, two electric motors, and Tesla’s driver-assistance Autopilot system, along with a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen that doubles as a gauge cluster, heated front and rear seats, reclining rear seats, a glass roof, four USB ports, and video streaming capability. The Long Range version was rated at about 509 kilometres of range, while Performance models were estimated at 468 to 507 kilometres depending on wheel size. Buyers also got a top speed of 240 km/h, and available extras included larger wheels, a tow hitch rated at 1,587 kilograms, Full Self-Driving (Supervised) capability, and Smart Summon.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The Model Y lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and its ride is described as firm. It also relies heavily on the touchscreen for almost all controls, which may not suit everyone. Even so, for shoppers who want a used EV with strong acceleration, generous cargo room, and a long list of standard features, the 2022 Tesla Model Y remains an appealing choice.
