19.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Nissan LEAF models reliable?
Owners consistently describe the Nissan LEAF as an affordable, comfortable, and practical EV for everyday driving. Across the model years in the data, the strongest themes are low running costs, smooth operation, and easy urban use.
- Owners rate the Nissan LEAF between 3.33 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk centres on battery condition and range retention, so a careful battery check matters before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used Nissan LEAF?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: ProPilot Assist with automated lane-centring and adaptive cruise control, plus forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, driver monitoring, and a 360-degree camera system.
- Infotainment: standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with 12.3-inch or dual 14.3-inch screens depending on trim.
- Range & charging: 488 kilometres of range, a 75-kWh pack, and 150 kilowatts of DC fast-charging power with a 10-80% charge in 35 minutes.
- Battery health: check battery state-of-health, review how the car has been charged over time, and confirm the remaining battery warranty coverage before you buy.
Which Nissan LEAF trim should I buy?
The 2026 Nissan LEAF offers these trims:
- S Plus: The entry trim brings the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen, standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the longest range at 488 kilometres. It suits you if you want the best-value starting point.
- SV Plus: This trim adds dual 14.3-inch screens, Google built-in apps, two rear USB-C ports, a wireless device charger, a six-speaker audio system, and TailorFit front seats. It suits you if you want the best mix of features and value.
- Platinum Plus: This top trim adds dual 14.3-inch screens, Google built-in apps, two rear USB-C ports, a wireless device charger, a 10-speaker Bose Personal Plus audio system with front headrest speakers, TailorFit upholstery for both rows, and vehicle-to-load power-offboarding capability. It suits you if you want the most fully equipped LEAF.
What Nissan LEAF do most buyers choose?
The Nissan LEAF years with the most listings are 2023, 2022, and 2024.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 77 | 18.2% |
| 2022 | 68 | 20.6% |
| 2024 | 66 | 15.2% |
| 2019 | 63 | 15.9% |
| 2018 | 58 | 19% |
| 2017 | 52 | 28.8% |
These higher-volume years tend to draw more shoppers because they offer a wider selection and more pricing choice. They also give you a better chance of finding the colour, trim, and condition you want.
What is the Nissan LEAF's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | $26,596 CAD | −18.94% |
| 2016 | $7,617 CAD | −17.99% |
| 2020 | $17,580 CAD | −8.97% |
| 2015 | $7,672 CAD | −8.49% |
| 2023 | $24,442 CAD | −8.46% |
| 2019 | $15,114 CAD | −6.73% |
| 2018 | $13,631 CAD | −6.11% |
| 2017 | $9,964 CAD | −5.46% |
| 2021 | $20,336 CAD | −1.14% |
| 2022 | $22,881 CAD | +2.07% |
Most model years are down year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used and want more value for your money. The largest drops are concentrated in the newer and older ends of the range, while a few years are moving only slightly. One model year is up modestly, showing that not every LEAF is following the same price path.
The 2022, 2021, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Nissan’s ProPilot Assist highway driving system is standard, combining automated lane-centring with adaptive cruise control.
For the safest used buy, the 2026 model posts the highest confirmed score of 7/10.
Should I buy a used Nissan LEAF now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2024 model is at −18.94% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −8.46%.
- Deal availability: The 2024 model has 15.2% good and great deals, and the 2023 model has 18.2%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2023 model has the most listings at a current average price of $24,442 CAD. The Nissan LEAF offers a comfortable, easygoing driving experience that works especially well for everyday commuting.
Consider waiting if:
- Range & charging: All models have a range exceeding 400 kilometres, the S Plus trim has 488 kilometres, and DC fast charging takes 35 minutes for a 10-80% charge.
- Tech: The latest model adds standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Google built-in apps on SV Plus and Platinum Plus models.
- Safety: The latest model adds standard ProPilot Assist with automated lane-centring and adaptive cruise control, along with a 360-degree camera system.
- Starting price: The 2026 Nissan Leaf S Plus starts at $47,935 CAD.
If you're buying used today, the 2023 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

The leaf is loaded with the features that matter, it is fun to drive and handles well , and will efficiently get me from point a to point b. It handles well on snow and ice, low center of gravity, the heated seats and steering wheel are perfect for Colorado winters and mountain driving.

I love this Leaf with a 212-mile range as an around-town car. With a CHAdeMO fast charger, that is being phased out, it is difficult to do a long road trip. However, I do not need to do long trips, so it works for me.

I've only had the car a couple of days, but I'm pretty happy with the purchase over all. I wish I had a few more amenities that came with the SL like: heated seats, 360° cameras, but I can do without it. The ePedal, ECO mode, charger timer and seamless use of free charging where I work are amazing! I do have to take the car to the dealer to correct the sound of the reverse alert, but overall very excited and happy with my choice.
