Overall, the Mercedes-Benz GLS has received strong praise from owners for its luxurious comfort, smooth ride, and impressive performance across all model years. Many drivers love the powerful engine and high-quality craftsmanship that result in a premium driving experience. However, some common concerns include the relatively poor gas mileage, higher price point, and a wish for more advanced technology features. Several reviewers also noted that the interior space could be better optimized to compete with other luxury SUVs.

Love all the features and it can pull my camper no problem! Beautiful car with kinetic seats that are nice when on a long drive. Love how my phone integrates into the dash screen. It’s classy for business but heavy enough to be outdoorsy as welll. Great value and you can’t go wrong with a Mercedes.

I just purchased a 2020 GLS 450 with 18,000 miles on the clock and I LOVE it. Nothing beats Mercedes when it comes to quality of vehicle and service from the Mercedes team. I was able to get an extended 5 year/ 100,000 mile warranty, which to me was worth the extra money. My last Mercedes was a 2003 E 500. It was such a good car that I waited this long to replace it. That’s what you get when you buy a Mercedes.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS stands out as the roomiest vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, with three rows of seating for six or seven people and up to 2,400 litres of cargo space. It also moved to a curvier, smoother design language and a wide-screened, tech-forward cabin, while the wheelbase was stretched by about five centimetres and the body grew by just over six centimetres. Even with that added size, front headroom decreased, so the emphasis was clearly on packaging, comfort, and luxury rather than maximum openness in every direction.
What makes the 2020 model especially distinctive is how much standard equipment it brought. The GLS 450 used a new 3.0-litre inline six with 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system called EQ Boost, and fuel consumption improved to a Natural Resources Canada-estimated 11.4 litres per 100 kilometres combined. Nine-speed automatic transmission, 4Matic all-wheel drive, and Airmatic air suspension were standard, along with dual 12.3-inch displays, MBUX, navigation, a Burmester surround sound stereo, SiriusXM, nine USB-C ports, wireless charging, and three years of Mercedes Me Connect services. Safety and convenience also took a step up with features such as Car-to-X communication, Exit Warning Assist, blind spot assist, 360-degree cameras, adaptive headlamps, auto high beams, parking assist, power-folding third-row seats, and power-adjustable second-row seats.
The 2020 GLS also appealed because it blended family practicality with genuinely upscale touches. The GLS 580 added a 4.0-litre V8 Biturbo with 483 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, while option packages could add everything from heated armrests and massaging seats to a head-up display, a 25-speaker stereo, and E-Active Body Control. At the same time, the model was not without drawbacks: the AMG Line Package could impede entry and exit, third-row access was a weak point, and touch-sensing controls were listed among the cons.
