The Mazda 626 has received a generally positive reception over the years, valued for its reliability, comfort, and fuel efficiency. Owners appreciate its decent performance and fun driving experience, making it a solid choice for daily use and family trips. However, some drivers have raised concerns about power, particularly with older models' smaller engines, along with occasional maintenance issues, especially as the cars age. Despite these drawbacks, many feel the Mazda 626 offers good value and enjoyable driving dynamics.

Mine is the base model and I bought it for $500 with 200,000 miles and have owned it for quite sometime now and it now has 230,000. The car is still in almost perfect condition! At one point it sat for almost 2 years, I went out and threw a new battery in it and it fired right up first crank! Even though it rides nice the suspension is pretty sloppy. Gas Mileage is great on it whether in town or on the highway. With the right winter studded tires the car charges through snow and ice pretty good during the winter. The car doesn't have a lot a power but it has enough passing power to pass some one with ease at any speed, just down shift and go. Enough power to pull out on the freeway with comfort and ease with no worries of slowing down traffic. I'm 6' ft and I fit in the front and back seat just fine with plenty of head room. It's a great car to have if you don't mind the plain old look of it. Great for a first car or if you want something cheap and great on gas to use as a daily driver. Easy to work on if you like doing things your self. Although I think mine is reaching the end of it's life, because now it seems like one little thing after another needs replacing. But I'll keep it and replace those parts till the motor gives out, because its a great little car!
My Mazda 626LX is a very humble appearing car. It looks not much different than many other Asian imports from the 1980's but I did love this car. It had a really nice navy blue interior. It was one of the first cars to ever have adjustable gas shocks that you could set to "sport" or "normal" or let it decided what was best depending on speed. It also had a large EQ on the stock stereo and little joystick on the center console to control the speaker balance and fade. The handling, although not amazing, was predictable. It was easy and fun to drive and didn't me down. This car was amazing for getting through snow as long as the tires had good tread of course. This car is by no means a fast car, but considering it only came with 83 horsepower, I found it did quite well. I did need to shift the automatic transmission manually to use the power it did have, but that only made it more fun. The sedan versions of this car have a much taller and more upright look to them, but since I had the coupe it has a much sleeker and lower look. The seating position in this car is very comfortable. Reliability of this car is very good. It now has 370,000 KM on the odometer and still runs smooth.
I put over 200,000 miles on this car and it still was in good condition till it was totaled by a drunk driver.
like the handling on it. very good on gas and the style on it is great. convenient features like power seats, leather, auto swing air vents. great space for cargo and also second row. very good on gas too. overall is a great vehicle to own
Overall one of the best cars I owned, 5 speed manual gave you power on downshifts, handled really well, cheap to own, burned very little gas, was good on the road, city too. Fun to drive, plenty of room and rode great, the Goodyear Eagle GT's were a perfect fit for it. Clutch lasted 160K.
