What should I look for when buying a used Kia Sportage?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and lane following assist
• Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Fuel efficiency: 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres combined (9.3 city, 7.0 highway) with FWD and 8.9 L/100 km combined (9.9 city, 7.8 highway) with AWD; the Sportage Hybrid is rated at 6.7 L/100 km combined, and the plug-in hybrid gets up to 53 kilometres of all-electric driving

Which Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2026 Kia Sportage offers these trims:

• LX: the entry point with the 12.3-inch touchscreen, the 2.5-litre engine, and FWD on the base grade; a sensible starting point if you want the core Sportage experience.
• LX AWD: adds all-wheel drive for extra traction in changing weather while keeping the same core equipment.
• X-Line: adds the rugged-looking appearance package with different front and rear bumpers, all-season tires on 19-inch wheels, and the tread-like SynTex stitching pattern.
• EX: adds more equipment than the lower trims and is one of the available steps in the line-up.
• EX Premium: the best-value trim if you want a richer feature set, including 19-inch wheels.
• X-Line Limited: the most feature-rich trim, adding the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, the Harman Kardon premium audio system, a head-up display, and digital key functionality.

What Kia Sportage do most buyers choose?

The Kia Sportage years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2022.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a broad mix of availability, pricing, and equipment. They also sit close enough to the current generation to deliver the modern features many shoppers want.

What is the Kia Sportage's resale value?

Most Sportage model years are down year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used because it creates more room for value. The newer model years still carry higher prices, but the table shows broad softening across the line-up rather than strength concentrated in just one or two years. The smallest changes are at the older end of the range, while the larger drops are concentrated in several more recent years.

The 2014, 2016, and 2025 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Kia Sportage safe?

• 2022: 8/10

Standard driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and lane following assist.
