What should I look for when buying a used Kia Sorento?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: The 2025 Sorento LX will return an estimated 9.4 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, while the turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder is rated at 10.3 L/100 km in combined driving.

Which Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2025 Kia Sorento offers these trims:

• LX: The entry trim uses the 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and suits buyers who want the Sorento’s core space and utility at the most accessible price point.
• EX: This trim moves you to the turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder and adds a more upscale overall feel for shoppers who want a stronger all-round package.
• X-Line: This version adds a rugged appearance, black badges, panoramic sunroof, and Highway Driving Assist, making it a good fit if you want more equipment and a more distinctive look.
• X-Line Limited: This trim builds on X-Line with a larger digital instrument panel, a 24-inch panoramic display, lane-changing Highway Driving Assist 2, and more active collision-avoidance technology.
• X-Pro: The top trim adds exclusive bumper covers, enhanced utility roof rails, matte-black 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, improved towing capacity, and a near-luxury cabin presentation.

What Kia Sorento do most buyers choose?

The Kia Sorento years with the most listings are 2020, 2019, and 2024.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a wider selection of trims, prices, and equipment levels. They also often sit in the sweet spot between newer features and more affordable used pricing.

What is the Kia Sorento's resale value?

Most Sorento model years are down year over year, which can work in your favour if you are shopping used. The newer models still show meaningful price drops, while the smallest changes appear in the older and 2024 model years.

The 2015, 2024, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Kia Sorento safe?

• 2025: 8/10
• 2024: 9/10
• 2022: 9/10

Highway Driving Assist is standard on X-Line, and X-Line Limited and X-Pro trims add lane-changing functionality to create Highway Driving Assist 2.

For the safest used buy, the 2022 and 2024 models both post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.

Should I buy a used Kia Sorento now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −14.02% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −9.37%.
• Deal availability: The 2024 model has 34.3% good and great deals.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2020 model has the most listings at a current average price of $17,767 CAD. The Kia Sorento offers a spacious, family-friendly cabin with a practical layout that makes it easy to live with day to day.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Kia equips the Sorento LX with an underwhelming 191-horsepower, 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder generates 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque.
• Tech: Every 2025 Sorento has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Kia Connect adds 911 Connect, a find-my-car function, remote access to certain vehicle features, and safe driver settings.
• Safety: The X-Line Limited and X-Pro add numerous active collision avoidance features, a camera-based Blind-Spot View Monitor, the surround-view camera system, and Highway Driving Assist 2.
• Starting price: In Canada, the base Sorento LX starts at less than $40,000.

If you're buying used today, the 2020 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
