What should I look for when buying a used Hyundai Sonata?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Every 2025 Sonata has standard advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), including forward collision warning with intersection assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

• Fuel efficiency: NRCan says a Sonata N Line should burn 8.8 L/100 km in combined driving, but we observed a fuel efficiency of 12.6 L/100 km on our testing loop.

Which Hyundai Sonata trim should I buy?

The 2025 Hyundai Sonata offers these trims:

• Preferred-Trend: This is the value-focused choice, with the 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluelink connected services, and the standard ADAS suite. It suits you if you want the core Sonata experience with strong everyday equipment.
• N Line: This is the performance-oriented trim, adding the turbocharged 2.5-litre engine, 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel, navigation, wireless smartphone charging, digital key technology, Bose audio, and Highway Driving Assist. It suits you if you want the most powerful Sonata and the richest feature set.

What Hyundai Sonata do most buyers choose?

The Hyundai Sonata years with the most listings are 2024, 2016, and 2022.

Higher-listing years tend to be the easiest to shop because you get more choice in colour, trim, mileage, and condition. They also often attract more competitive pricing, which can help you find a better match for your budget.

What is the Hyundai Sonata's resale value?

Most Sonata model years are down year over year, which can work in your favour if you’re shopping used. The biggest drops are concentrated in older and newer examples alike, while a few years have fallen by smaller amounts and may feel a bit steadier in the market.

The 2015, 2017, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
