What should I look for when buying a used Hyundai Kona?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross-traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, and Safe Exit Warning.
• Infotainment: a 12.3-inch central touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy for the FWD 2.0-litre base engine stands at 7.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined. Opting for AWD sees that number rise by a litre, which is a modest sacrifice for the added capability. Go for the Kona’s turbo engine in N Line trim and the Natural Resources Canada estimate is 9.0 L/100 km combined with standard AWD.

Which Hyundai Kona trim should I buy?

The 2025 Hyundai Kona offers these trims:

• Essential: This is the entry point, and it gives you the 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the Kona’s core safety and connectivity features at the lowest price.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more visual polish and opens the door to useful upgrades such as the Trend package.
• Preferred with Trend package: This version adds a power sunroof, digital key, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, and a proximity-activated power liftgate, making it the sweet spot for shoppers who want more convenience without jumping to the top trim.
• N Line: This trim brings the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, eight-speed automatic transmission, standard AWD, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and sportier exterior details.
• N Line with Ultimate package: This is the most feature-rich version, adding built-in navigation, Bose premium audio, Highway Driving Assist, Blind Spot View Monitor, Parking Distance Warning, Surround View Monitor, and Remote Smart Parking Assist.

What Hyundai Kona do most buyers choose?

The Hyundai Kona years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

Higher-listing model years tend to be the easiest to shop because you get more choice in trims, colours, and equipment levels. They also usually attract more competitive pricing, which can help you find a better match for your budget.

What is the Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The Kona’s used prices are down across every model year shown here, which is good news if you’re shopping for value. The newer years are also seeing double-digit drops, so recent-model buyers can benefit from softer pricing while still getting newer tech and features. The spread between the largest and smallest declines is fairly tight, which suggests broad downward pressure rather than one isolated outlier.

The 2024, 2021, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

• 2024: 9/10
• 2022: 8/10
