What should I look for when buying a used Hyundai Kona?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy for the FWD 2.0-litre base engine stands at 7.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined. Opting for AWD sees that number rise by a litre, and the Natural Resources Canada estimate for the Kona’s turbo engine in N Line trim is 9.0 L/100 km combined with standard AWD.

Which Hyundai Kona trim should I buy?

The 2025 Hyundai Kona offers these trims:

• Essential: The entry trim brings the 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, and standard safety tech, making it the value-focused starting point.
• Preferred: This trim adds more visual polish and is the best-value choice if you want a stronger mix of equipment and price.
• Preferred with Trend package: This version adds a power sunroof, digital key, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, and a proximity-activated power liftgate.
• N Line: This trim adds the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, eight-speed automatic transmission, sportier styling, and standard AWD, making it the pick if you want the most performance and the most upscale feel.
• N Line with Ultimate package: This version adds built-in navigation, the Bose premium audio system, Highway Driving Assist, Blind Spot View Monitor, Parking Distance Warning, Surround View Monitor, and Remote Smart Parking Assist.

What Hyundai Kona do most buyers choose?

The Hyundai Kona years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, colour, and price. They also usually reflect the model years shoppers are cross-shopping most actively, so supply and demand stay strongest there.

What is the Hyundai Kona's resale value?

Most Kona model years are showing double-digit price declines, which is good news if you are shopping used and want more value for your money. The newer models are also falling, but at a slightly smaller pace than the older ones in the table. That means recent years still command stronger prices, while used buyers can benefit from the broader downward movement.

The 2024, 2023, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Hyundai Kona safe?

• 2025: 9/10
• 2024: 9/10
• 2022: 8/10

The 2025 Kona includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross-traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, and Safe Exit Warning across all trims.

For the safest used buy, the 2024 and 2025 models both post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
