What should I look for when buying a used Hyundai Elantra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: The Elantra Hybrid is rated at 4.8 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, 4.5 on the highway, and 4.7 combined, while non-hybrid trims are still impressive at 7.7 L/100 km city, 5.9 highway, and 6.9 combined for the base engine.

• Infotainment: A 10.25-inch touchscreen is now standard on the Luxury trim and above, while the Essential and Preferred have an 8-inch touchscreen; the smaller system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

• Safety package: Hyundai’s SmartSense suite includes a simple forward braking assist system, lane keep assist and lane departure warning, lane following assist, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor.

Which Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2024 Hyundai Elantra offers these trims:

• Essential: The entry trim focuses on value with the 2.0-litre engine, CVT, 8-inch touchscreen, and the core safety suite; it suits you if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• Preferred: This trim adds blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers who want more everyday convenience and confidence.
• Luxury: Luxury brings the 10.25-inch touchscreen, digital instrument panel, Bose audio, wireless charging pad, and Highway Driving Assist, so it suits you if you want the most rounded comfort-and-tech package.
• N Line Ultimate: This trim adds the 1.6-litre turbo-four, seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, firmer sport-focused hardware, and the more dramatic exterior treatment, making it the pick if you want the most engaging Elantra short of the full N.
• N: The performance-focused N adds the 276-hp 2.0-litre turbo, eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, adaptive dampers, and revised steering hardware for the most serious driving experience in the range.

What Hyundai Elantra do most buyers choose?

The Hyundai Elantra years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

Those higher-volume years tend to be the easiest to shop because you get more listings to compare and a broader spread of prices and trims. They also tend to attract more buyers because they sit close to the sweet spot between newer features and used-car value.

What is the Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

Most Elantra model years in the table are down by double digits year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used and want stronger value. The newer years are also seeing meaningful price drops, so recent-model shoppers have more room to find a deal.

The 2015, 2016, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Hyundai Elantra now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −12.49% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −11.07%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 33.2% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 33.1%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $22,546 CAD. The Hyundai Elantra offers a roomy cabin, strong value, and a broad mix of trims that make it easy to match your budget and priorities.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: As an affordable, mass-market car, you would reasonably expect the Elantra to offer one powertrain. Instead, there are four engines and five transmissions, each of which share a front-wheel drive (FWD) layout and four cylinders.
• Tech: A 10.25-inch touchscreen is now standard on the Luxury trim and above, while the Essential and Preferred have an 8-inch touchscreen; the smaller system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Safety: Standard safety features on the 2024 Hyundai Elantra in Canada include a simple forward braking assist system, lane keep assist and lane departure warning, lane following assist, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
