What should I look for when buying a used Hyundai Elantra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: The Elantra Hybrid has a 1.6-litre inline-four running on the Atkinson Cycle, a 1.3-kilowatt-hour battery pack, and a single electric motor, with fuel economy rated at 4.8 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, 4.5 on the highway, and 4.7 combined.
• Infotainment: A 10.25-inch touchscreen is now standard on the Luxury trim and above, while the Essential and Preferred have an 8-inch touchscreen; the smaller system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Which Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2024 Hyundai Elantra offers these trims:

• Essential: The entry trim starts the lineup with the 2.0-litre engine and a practical equipment set, making it the value-focused starting point.
• Preferred: This trim adds blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist, making it a smart step up for everyday use.
• Luxury: The Luxury trim adds the 10.25-inch touchscreen, digital instrument panel, Bose audio, wireless charging, and Highway Driving Assist, and it is the best-value trim for shoppers who want the richest mix of comfort and tech.
• N Line Ultimate: This trim adds the 1.6-litre turbo powertrain, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and a more athletic chassis setup, along with the sportier exterior treatment.
• N: The performance-focused N brings the 276-hp 2.0-litre turbo and the most serious driving hardware in the lineup for buyers who want maximum performance.

What Hyundai Elantra do most buyers choose?

The Hyundai Elantra years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, more trim choice, and a stronger chance of finding the right combination of price and equipment. They also tend to attract shoppers who want newer features without moving all the way to the newest model year.

What is the Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

Most Elantra model years in the table are down by double digits year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used and want stronger value. The biggest drops are concentrated in older and mid-cycle years, while the newer models are also softer than they were a year ago. That creates a broad buying window across the lineup, with several years now sitting at noticeably lower prices than before.

The 2016, 2014, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Hyundai Elantra now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −12.49% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −11.42%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 32.5% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 32.6%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $22,650 CAD. The Hyundai Elantra offers a roomy cabin, strong value, and a broad mix of trims that make it easy to match your budget and priorities.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: As an affordable, mass-market car, you would reasonably expect the Elantra to offer one powertrain. Instead, there are four engines and five transmissions, each of which share a front-wheel drive (FWD) layout and four cylinders.
• Tech: A 10.25-inch touchscreen is now standard on the Luxury trim and above, and an eight-speaker Bose stereo is standard from the Luxury trim, as are a wireless charging pad and Highway Driving Assist.
• Safety: Standard safety features on the 2024 Hyundai Elantra in Canada include a simple forward braking assist system, lane keep assist and lane departure warning, lane following assist, automatic high beams, and a driver attention monitor.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
