What should I look for when buying a used Honda HR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Honda Sensing, with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a wireless smartphone charger.
• Fuel efficiency: official Natural Resources Canada ratings say the HR-V will burn 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres in combined city and highway driving with front-wheel drive (FWD) or 8.7 L/100 km combined with AWD.

Which Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda HR-V offers these trims:

• LX: The entry trim brings the core HR-V formula and is the least expensive way into the lineup; adding AWD costs extra here.
• Sport: This trim adds AWD as standard, plus unique 18-inch black wheels and Boost Blue paint availability, making it a strong value choice if you want more style and traction.
• EX-L: The top trim adds genuine leather upholstery, perforated surfaces, Z-pattern stitching, front footwell lighting, silver steering wheel spokes, and the most upscale cabin presentation.

What Honda HR-V do most buyers choose?

The Honda HR-V years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they sit near the sweet spot between newer features, broad availability, and more approachable pricing. They also give you more listings to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim and condition.

What is the Honda HR-V's resale value?

Most HR-V model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used because it creates more room for value. The newer model years are still carrying higher prices, but the overall pattern shows broad softening across the lineup rather than strength in just a few years.

The 2026, 2018, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Honda HR-V safe?

• 2026: 6/10
• 2023: 8/10

Honda equips every HR-V with Honda Sensing, a collection of driver assist features.

For the safest used buy, the 2023 model posts the highest confirmed score of 8/10.
