Customer summary
Overall, owners of the Dodge Journey appreciate its spaciousness, comfortable seating, and versatile three-row layout, making it a great choice for families and long trips. Many like the smooth driving experience and the powerful V6 engine, especially in colder climates with higher-end features like all-wheel drive. However, there are notable concerns about reliability, especially with mechanical issues in earlier models, as well as dissatisfaction with fuel economy and certain outdated features like the lack of modern technology such as Bluetooth and rearview cameras. Some drivers have also pointed out concerns about the quality of safety features and overall performance, with some describing it as lacking in power and sluggish at times.

Is the Dodge Journey a good car?
Yes — the Dodge Journey appeals to shoppers who want a spacious, comfortable family vehicle with a versatile three-row layout. Owners also frequently praise its smooth driving experience and the added confidence of available all-wheel drive and V6 power.
The all-generations owner rating is 4.2/5 across every model year in the data.
20.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Dodge Journey models reliable?

- Owners rate the Dodge Journey between 3.4 and 4.7 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is worth weighing carefully because owner feedback across the years includes recurring mechanical concerns alongside the vehicle's comfort and space advantages.
What Dodge Journey do most buyers choose?
The Dodge Journey years with the most listings are 2016, 2017, and 2015.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2016 | 245 | 25.3% |
| 2017 | 223 | 30.9% |
| 2015 | 190 | 16.8% |
| 2018 | 167 | 35.9% |
| 2014 | 152 | 9.9% |
| 2019 | 73 | 38.4% |
These higher-volume years tend to attract more shoppers because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, price, and condition. They also often sit in the sweet spot between newer features and lower used prices.
What is the Dodge Journey's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2017 | $10,898 CAD | −17.15% |
| 2014 | $6,984 CAD | −16.54% |
| 2018 | $12,159 CAD | −16.15% |
| 2019 | $14,438 CAD | −14.22% |
| 2016 | $9,784 CAD | −11.55% |
| 2015 | $8,303 CAD | −9.03% |
The table shows broad downward movement across every model year, which can work in your favour if you're shopping used. Several years have posted double-digit declines, so buyers may find stronger value than they did a year ago. The smallest changes are still negative, which means prices have generally softened across the lineup.
The 2015, 2016, and 2019 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

4.2 Overall rating
Customers say

Exactly what we needed as a family vehicle. 3rd row is a huge bonus and the room on the inside is better than I could have imagined. Not as big as the Durango but bigger than the Ford Escape. Very pleased with the performance thus far. We had 8 inches of snow 2 days after we bought it, and it hadled the snow like a champ!
