What should I look for when buying a used BMW 3 Series?

Key things to evaluate:

• Fuel efficiency: The official Natural Resources Canada fuel economy rating for the 2025 BME 330i xDrive is 8.0 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving.
• Infotainment: BMW Operating System 8.5 (iDrive 8.5) with a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, iDrive controls on the centre console, and the BMW Intelligent Assistant voice recognition system.
• Safety package: Active Protection System, Active Guard, Driving Assistant, Advanced Driver Assistance Package, and Driving Assistance Professional Package.

Which BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW 3 Series offers these trims:

• 330i xDrive: The core all-wheel-drive model brings the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, an eight-speed automatic, and the brand’s balanced mix of performance and efficiency. It suits you if you want the best-value entry point into the lineup.
• M340i xDrive: This trim adds the inline-six powertrain and a stronger performance focus for buyers who want a more urgent driving experience without stepping all the way to the top model.
• M3: The range-topping performance model adds the most serious power and track-ready intent in the lineup for shoppers who want the most capable 3 Series.

What BMW 3 Series do most buyers choose?

The BMW 3 Series years with the most listings are 2025, 2017, and 2014.

Higher-volume years usually give you more choice in trims, colours, and equipment combinations, which makes it easier to compare listings and find the right fit. They also tend to attract more shopper attention because they balance availability with familiar features and pricing.

What is the BMW 3 Series's resale value?

Most model years are down by double digits year over year, which creates more room for used buyers to find value. The steepest drops are concentrated in the newer and mid-cycle years, while the older examples are also moving lower but at a somewhat smaller pace. That pattern suggests the market is still adjusting across the lineup rather than settling into a flat trend.

The 2015, 2020, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the BMW 3 Series safe?

• 2025: 9/10

• 2022: 9/10
• 2020: 9/10

The 2025 BMW 3 Series includes the Active Protection System, Active Guard, Driving Assistant, and standard blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
