CarGurus Analysis: 2026 Volvo XC90
Summary
With 121 currently listed for sale and an average price of $69,114 CAD, 19.8% of 2026 Volvo XC90 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2026 Volvo XC90 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2026 Volvo XC90 stands out as a luxury midsize SUV that blends elegant Scandinavian design, family-friendly practicality and a strong safety reputation. It sits above the Volvo XC60 in the brand’s SUV range and is aimed at buyers who want three rows of seating without giving up a sophisticated, premium feel. Its appeal is broad: it can serve as a family vehicle, but it also suits shoppers who want something stylish and practical rather than overtly sporty or off-road focused.
Inside, the XC90’s strengths are its upscale cabin and thoughtful layout. The interior features a vertical touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, top-quality materials and good accessibility. There is decent space in the second row, and Volvo says the third row can comfortably accommodate people up to 5’7” tall. Some versions also add a crystal gear shifter made by Orrefors, which reinforces the SUV’s luxury character. Safety remains a major part of the XC90’s identity, with City Safety, Pilot Assist for semi-autonomous driving and a 360-degree camera system among its technologies.
The 2026 XC90 also offers a wide range of powertrains, including a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower, a twincharged T6 with 316 horsepower and a plug-in hybrid T8 with up to 400 horsepower. All Canadian second-generation XC90s come with standard all-wheel drive. For buyers, that mix of seating, technology, safety equipment and powertrain choice makes the XC90 especially compelling. The main drawbacks are that base models are underpowered, maintenance costs can be high and some plug-in hybrid models may experience premature battery wear, along with minor infotainment glitches.
