New & Used 2026 Toyota Tacoma for Sale near New Mexico

Is the 2026 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

The 2026 Toyota Tacoma earns an 6/10 expert rating, and the TRD Pro version is aimed at buyers who want a rugged, off-road-focused midsize pickup. The model’s breadth is a major strength: you get multiple configurations, several powertrain combinations, and plenty of packages, which makes it easier to tailor the truck to your needs. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

The trade-offs are just as clear. The TRD Pro’s poor fuel economy, cramped back seat, and interior materials that feel cheap make it less convincing as an everyday truck than its adventurous image suggests. If you want a Tacoma mainly for its off-road capability, it makes sense; if you want the most practical version for daily use, you may want to look at a different trim.

The market signal is still reasonably supportive, with 38.7% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2026 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

The 2026 Toyota Tacoma is presented as a truck with a strong reputation for reliability, and Toyota’s long-term durability is part of its appeal. The expert test-drive data also points to impressive resale value, which usually matters to used buyers thinking about ownership over several years.

On the road, the truck’s powertrain and chassis are described as capable and robust, and the Tacoma’s off-road hardware is built to handle demanding use. Toyota also includes complimentary trial subscriptions to connected services, which adds some ownership convenience.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the most extreme versions can be expensive to own if you do not actually need their off-road hardware and efficiency compromises.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Toyota Tacoma?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tacoma lineup is broad, with the Double Cab and 4WD standard in Canada, plus short or standard-length cargo beds, manual or automatic transmissions, and a wide spread of packages. The base versions miss some of the more specialised equipment found on higher trims, while the TRD Pro adds fancy IsoDynamic performance seats and a more aggressive off-road setup.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with automatic versions making 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, while manual versions make 270 hp and 310 lb-ft. The i-Force Max hybrid increases output to 326 hp and 465 lb-ft and is described as having better fuel economy.
• Safety package: Every Tacoma has Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane centring assist, road sign assist, and high beam assist. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard in Canada, and Proactive Driving Assist is standard on automatic models.
• Infotainment: The TRD Pro tester had a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and Toyota’s connected services include Safety Connect, Drive Connect, and other trial subscriptions depending on trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The TRD Pro is rated at 10.3 L/100 km in combined driving, but real-world testing returned 13.4 L/100 km. The hybrid powertrain is described as more efficient, though no separate figure is stated here.

Which 2026 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2026 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 11 trim levels: SR5, SR5+, TRD Sport, TRD Off-road, TRD Sport+, TRD Off-road+, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-road Premium, Limited, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the starting point if you want the broad Tacoma formula without moving into the more specialised off-road or premium territory. It gives you access to the model’s core strengths, including the standard safety suite and the truck’s many configuration choices.
• SR5+: This is the next step up if you want a little more equipment while staying on the value side of the lineup. It makes sense if you want a better-equipped Tacoma without jumping into the more expensive sport, off-road, or luxury-oriented trims.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more road-focused Tacoma with a sportier flavour than the entry trims. It sits in the middle of the range and is a sensible step if you want more personality without going all the way to the hardcore off-road models.
• TRD Off-road: This is the better fit if you want the Tacoma’s off-road character without paying for the most extreme versions. It should suit buyers who actually plan to use the truck away from pavement but do not need the full TRD Pro treatment.
• TRD Sport+: This is for buyers who want the sport trim’s idea but with more equipment. It is a stronger pick than the plain TRD Sport if you want a richer feature set.
• TRD Off-road+: This is the better-value choice for buyers leaning toward trail use who want more equipment than the standard TRD Off-road. It is the trim to consider if you want capability and added content without going to the top of the range.
• TRD Sport Premium: This suits buyers who want a more upscale sport-oriented Tacoma. It is a good fit if you care about comfort and features as much as the truck’s styling.
• TRD Off-road Premium: This is the best-value trim for buyers who want serious off-road intent plus more comfort and convenience. If you want a Tacoma that is genuinely trail-ready but not as extreme or expensive as the TRD Pro, this is the one to focus on.
• Limited: This is the trim to choose if you want a more polished, premium-feeling Tacoma rather than a rugged specialist. It is the right direction if your priorities are comfort and everyday usability.
• TRD Pro: This is the most extreme off-road choice, with standard 4WD, a cold-air performance intake, a locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select, Downhill Assist Control, Crawl Control, a front skid plate, a suspension lift, and Fox adjustable shocks. It is the right pick only if you genuinely want the most off-road-capable Tacoma and can live with the compromises.
• Trailhunter: This is the other hybrid-only, off-road-focused choice for buyers who want a more adventure-oriented Tacoma. The expert verdict suggests shoppers who want an expensive off-road-ready Tacoma may be happier with this model than with the TRD Pro.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the crash-test results are not a reason to choose the truck over a rival if safety is your top priority.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Toyota Tacoma?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have some room to shop carefully rather than rushing into the first truck you see.

• Deal availability: 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 199 listings available.

Is the 2026 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2026 Toyota Tacoma earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it a Marginal rating in its updated moderate overlap frontal impact assessment, while the rest of its IIHS results are Good or Acceptable.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2026 Tacoma has Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane centring assist, road sign assist, and high beam assist. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard in Canada.

Proactive Driving Assist is standard on automatic models, but it can be intrusive when it adds braking or steering inputs you do not want. The lane-centring system also requires frequent steering input to avoid warnings, which can make it tiring on long highway drives.

Should I buy a 2026 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• The 2026 Tacoma stands out because Toyota sells it in many versions, with multiple powertrain combinations and packages, and the TRD Pro is one of the most off-road-capable Tacoma models.

The bottom line: If you want the broadest choice of Tacoma configurations and are specifically interested in the 2026 truck’s off-road-focused versions, this year makes sense. If you are more price-sensitive, you should shop carefully and be open to a different Tacoma trim rather than paying extra for the most extreme version.
