Why it stands out

The 2026 Toyota Corolla stands out because it combines the Corolla nameplate’s long-running reputation for practicality with a broader model range than earlier versions. It is available as a sedan or hatchback, and the lineup also includes the Corolla Hybrid and the GR Corolla. Toyota gives this generation a sharper look than recent Corollas, with arrow-shaped headlamps, balanced proportions, and sculpted sides, which helps it feel a little more distinctive without abandoning the car’s familiar, sensible character.

This generation also brings a number of useful features and updates. Toyota says the 12th-generation Corolla was introduced in 2018, and production moved to Mexico at the start of the generation in 2019. The Corolla Hybrid pairs a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a CVT, while the GR Corolla uses a turbocharged 1.6-litre three-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. A 2023 facelift added fresh bumper designs, an eight-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote keyless entry, and, on all but the base model, a smart key system with push button start and blind spot monitoring.

For buyers, the appeal is straightforward: the Corolla is still built around low running costs, strong reliability, and easy day-to-day use, but this generation adds more variety and more equipment than the model has often offered in the past. The trade-off is that the Corolla can still be plain in some versions, and the engine choice remains limited for many models. Even so, the 2026 Toyota Corolla is distinctive because it manages to be practical and dependable while offering enough range, technology, and performance to suit very different kinds of drivers.
