New & Used 2026 Toyota 4Runner for Sale near New Mexico

Is the 2026 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2026 Toyota 4Runner earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

It combines a full redesign with the rugged, body-on-frame character that has long defined the nameplate, and in Canada it comes with standard four-wheel drive. Toyota also moved it to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and hybrid powertrain setup, which gives you a more modern feel without abandoning its off-road roots.

The trade-offs are clear: it is still a large, truck-based SUV, so it is not trying to be the most car-like choice in the segment, and the available third row is limited to non-hybrid models. It also compromises passenger comfort and interior space to make it one of the better off-roaders on the market.

For shoppers who want adventure while carrying passengers, it makes sense, and 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2026 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2026 Toyota 4Runner is built around a rugged, body-on-frame layout and a modern turbocharged four-cylinder or hybrid powertrain, which supports its durability-focused mission. Its performance tuning is described as well matched to the engine, and the torque is especially useful for off-roading and low-range work.

Toyota also includes Service Connect, which sends maintenance updates and vehicle health reports, and that adds a useful ownership convenience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is accepting a truck-based SUV that prioritises capability over comfort and efficiency.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Toyota 4Runner?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model is the most stripped-back, with an 8-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, while higher trims add a 12.3-inch cluster and, starting at TRD Off-Road Premium, a 14-inch touchscreen. Off-road-oriented models also get synthetic leather, while Limited and Platinum use leather upholstery.
• Powertrain: You can choose a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder or an i-Force Max hybrid with an electric motor. The hybrid makes more power and torque, but it is not especially quick and does not deliver standout fuel economy.
• Safety package: Every 4Runner gets Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road sign recognition, and high beam assist. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard.
• Infotainment: The 4Runner comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the touchscreen grows from 8 inches to 14 inches on higher trims. Wireless phone charging is standard on all but the base model, and Drive Connect adds voice assistant, cloud navigation, and traffic updates.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is rated at 10.0 L/100 km combined, while the non-hybrid versions rate at 11.2 L/100 km combined. In mixed driving, the hybrid averaged 14.6 L/100 km.

Which 2026 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2026 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 8 trim levels: standard package, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and standard package.

Here's the short version:

• Standard package: This is the entry point if you want the 4Runner’s core rugged character and standard safety tech without paying for extra off-road hardware or larger screens.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a step up from the base model without jumping straight into the more specialised off-road trims.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: This is the best-value choice for many buyers because it adds serious off-road hardware, including a locking rear differential, Bilstein remote-reservoir dampers, extra ground clearance, all-terrain tyres, and the Multi-Terrain Monitor.
• Limited: Pick this if you want the more street-friendly setup with full-time 4WD and a lower ride height.
• Platinum: This suits you if you want a more luxurious feel, leather upholstery, and the easier-to-use full-time 4WD system.
• TRD Pro: This is for buyers who want one of the most capable off-road versions, with disconnecting sway bars, unique front bumpers, Fox adjustable remote-reservoir shocks, and extra underbody protection.
• Trailhunter: This is the most specialised trim, with 33-inch off-road tyres, Old Man Emu shocks, extra ground clearance, a snorkel, rock rails, an on-board compressor, and a roof rack.
• standard package: The hybrid standard package is the least expensive way into the hybrid powertrain, but it is not the best value if you want the most equipment for the money.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, and blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard too.

Is the 2026 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2026 Toyota 4Runner received four out of five stars overall from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with four-star ratings in the frontal crash and rollover evaluations. It also got mixed results from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, including a Marginal score in the moderate front overlap crash test.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota equips every 4Runner with Safety Sense 3.0, which includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road sign recognition, and high beam assist. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard.

Headlights vary by package, and the small front overlap test is incomplete because it has only been tested on one side.

Should I buy a 2026 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• Choose the 2026 if: 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Choose the 2026 if: Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Choose the 2026 if: It adds a broader trim spread, standard four-wheel drive in Canada, and a stronger technology story.
• Consider the 2025 if: It brought the long-awaited redesign with more capability, power, comfort, and technology.

The 2026 is the better pick if you want the latest version of the redesigned 4Runner with its modern tech and broad trim range. If you are price-sensitive, the 2025 can still make sense because it delivers the core redesign benefits and may be easier on your budget.
