New & Used 2026 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearFort St. John, BC

Is the 2026 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — you rate it 5/5, and our experts score it 6.7/10. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

The 2026 Toyota 4Runner is aimed at you if you want an old-school SUV with real adventure credentials, and it stands out as one of the better off-roaders on the market. It also has a more family-friendly side than some rivals because it can carry more passengers than the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco, and the available hybrid powertrain improves fuel economy relative to those competitors.

The trade-offs are clear: passenger comfort and interior space take a hit, and the ride is firm and jiggly. Even with the hybrid, fuel economy still trails typical crossover SUVs, which are usually more comfortable and more affordable. For shoppers who prioritise off-road ability and still want to bring passengers along, it makes a strong case.

32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some market support for selective buyers.

Is the 2026 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2026 Toyota 4Runner is built around a rugged, body-on-frame formula, and Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 suite is standard across the lineup. Its available hybrid powertrain and off-road-focused hardware suggest a vehicle designed for durability and hard use, while the expert assessment also points to a clear adventure-first mission.

The performance notes describe the powertrain and transmission as well matched, with the hybrid’s torque helping in low-range off-road driving. On the cost side, the model is positioned as purpose-built for adventure, which reinforces the idea that it is engineered for a specific job rather than broad crossover-style comfort.

If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is that the truck-like ride and off-road hardware may not suit everyday commuting as well as a crossover would.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Toyota 4Runner?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model is the most stripped-back version, while higher trims add more comfort and capability. The interior is simple and utilitarian, with hard plastics in many places, and the off-road-oriented models use easy-to-clean synthetic leather. Limited and Platinum trims add leather upholstery, but the cabin still does not feel especially upscale.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder and an available hybrid version. The hybrid increases output to 326 hp and 465 lb-ft, but it is not especially quick and still does not deliver standout fuel economy.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road sign recognition, and high beam assist. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard.
• Infotainment: The base setup includes a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch touchscreen. Higher trims expand to a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, and the touchscreen grows to 14 inches beginning with the TRD Off-Road Premium package. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and wireless phone charging is included on all but the base model.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is rated at 10.0 L/100 km combined, while non-hybrid versions are rated at 11.2 L/100 km combined.

Which 2026 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2026 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 8 trim levels: standard package, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and standard package.

Here's the short version:

• standard package: This is the entry point to the lineup and the most affordable way into the 4Runner. It gives you the core rugged SUV formula, but it is the least equipped version, so it makes the most sense if you want the 4Runner experience at the lowest price.
• TRD Sport: This trim adds more equipment than the base model while staying on the more street-oriented side of the lineup. It suits you if you want a step up in features without moving into the more specialised off-road models.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: This is the best-value choice if you want the 4Runner’s adventure focus to feel fully realised. It adds a larger touchscreen, a locking rear differential, Bilstein remote-reservoir dampers, extra ground clearance, all-terrain tyres, the Multi-Terrain System, and a Multi-Terrain Monitor.
• Limited: This is the more street-friendly choice, with a full-time 4WD system and a locking centre differential that is easier to use on the road. It also gets leather upholstery and is better suited to you if comfort matters more than maximum trail hardware.
• Platinum: This trim builds on the Limited with a more upscale equipment set and the same easier-to-live-with full-time 4WD layout. It is the pick if you want a more premium-feeling 4Runner without going all-in on the hardcore off-road models.
• TRD Pro: This is the serious off-road performance trim, with disconnecting sway bars, unique front bumpers for better approach angles, Fox adjustable remote-reservoir shocks, an aluminium front skid plate, and underbody protection.
• Trailhunter: This is the most expedition-focused version, with a snorkel, Old Man Emu shocks, rock rails, an on-board compressor, a roof rack, and extensive skid-plate protection. It suits you if overlanding-style use is your priority.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, along with blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is the 2026 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2026 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. It also received a Marginal score in the IIHS moderate front overlap crash test.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road sign recognition, and high beam assist. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard.

The main caveats are the mixed crash-test results and the incomplete IIHS small front overlap rating because it has only been tested on one side. Headlight performance also varies by package.
