New & Used 2026 Subaru Outback for Sale nearMount Forest, ON

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback a good car?

The 2026 Subaru Outback earns an 7.17/10 expert rating, and it’s aimed at you if you want one vehicle that can handle daily commuting, cargo duty, and weekend adventures. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

The redesigned Outback keeps the practical strengths that made the nameplate appealing, while adding an SUV-like shape and a broader sense of capability. In testing, it was comfortable on pavement and impressively capable off-road, and the overall impression was that Subaru paid close attention to how you actually use the vehicle. The main trade-off is that higher trim levels have diminishing returns, so the best value may be lower in the range rather than at the top.

With 36.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback reliable?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is presented as a vehicle that should fit well into long-term everyday use, with Subaru’s safety-first approach and a strong showing in testing and evaluation. The expert assessment also points to a composed, confident driving experience, plus a powertrain that doesn’t feel strained in normal use.

The base engine is described as more capable than expected, and the CVT avoids the droning behaviour you might associate with this type of transmission. The cabin also stays relatively quiet in most situations, which supports the sense that the Outback is built for steady, low-stress ownership.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is that higher-spec versions may not deliver enough extra value to justify their added complexity and cost.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Subaru Outback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Touring trim already brings attractive woven textile interior coverings, physical climate controls, and a cabin that feels well finished. Higher trims add smoother materials and leather upholstery, while the top Premier XT trim gets a saddle brown interior palette that gives the cabin a warmer, more rugged feel.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a 2.5-litre boxer four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, or a turbocharged 2.4-litre boxer-four with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both use a CVT and standard all-wheel drive, and the base engine is described as more capable than expected.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard and includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, automatic emergency steering, emergency stop assist, haptic steering wheel alerts, a driver attention monitor, adaptive headlights, and automatic high beams. The Premium XT trim adds some premium features, including a surround-view camera system, which is also equipped on the Wilderness.
• Infotainment: The Outback uses a 12.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The system is responsive and easy to use, and a wireless charging pad is available.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates as little as 8.5 L/100 km combined for the base engine, 9.7 L/100 km combined for XT models, and 10.2 L/100 km combined for the Wilderness.

Which 2026 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is offered in 4 trim levels: Touring, Premium XT, Wilderness, and Premier XT.

Here's the short version:

• Touring: This is the best-value starting point if you want the Outback’s core strengths without paying for extras you may not need. It already delivers the practical cabin, standard all-wheel drive, and the full EyeSight safety suite, making it the trim most buyers should start with.
• Premium XT: Choose this if you want the stronger turbocharged engine and extra convenience and driver-assist features. It also adds a surround-view camera system, but the price jump is significant, so it makes sense mainly if you’ll use the added equipment regularly.
• Wilderness: Pick this if your priorities lean more toward adventure use. It adds more off-road-focused capability, including increased ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and electronically controlled suspension dampers.
• Premier XT: Go here if you want the most upscale cabin presentation and the turbo engine together. The saddle brown interior palette stands out, but the higher trims show diminishing returns, so this is more of a want than a need for most shoppers.

The Premium XT trim enhances some standard features and adds a handful of premium items, including a surround-view camera system, while the Wilderness also gets that camera system.

Should I buy a 2026 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• The redesign gives you SUV-like styling with wagon practicality and strong off-road ability.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It remains a distinctive wagon with standard all-wheel drive and strong safety ratings.

The bottom line: If you want the newest Outback with the most up-to-date design, tech, and capability balance, the 2026 is the better target. If you’re more price-sensitive and value the older wagon character, the 2025 remains worth a look.
