Is the 2026 Porsche 911 a good car?

The 2026 Porsche 911 stands out because it blends one of the most recognisable sports-car shapes with a rear-engine layout that remains unusual today. Porsche has kept the 911’s teardrop profile and boxer-engine character while steadily refining the car over time, and that combination is a big part of its appeal. It is also a car with real breadth: the 911 can be tuned for comfortable touring, serious performance, or racetrack focus, which helps explain why it has such a strong reputation among enthusiasts.

For 2026, the 911’s appeal is especially tied to its wide range of performance choices. The base Carrera uses a turbocharged 3.0-litre horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine with 379 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque, while the Carrera S and 4S raise output to 443 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. The lineup also includes more specialised versions such as the Targa models, the Turbo and Turbo S, the GT3, the Carrera T, the Dakar, and the 911 S/T, each aimed at a different kind of buyer. A 2025 refresh brought slightly different front- and rear-end styling, a fully digital instrument panel, minor interior updates, and a base Carrera engine boost to 388 hp, while the GTS moved into hybrid territory with 532 hp and 449 lb-ft of torque.

That breadth comes with the usual 911 trade-offs. The car is pricey new or used, has limited passenger and cargo space, and can be expensive to maintain. Fuel consumption also varies widely by version, with the base Carrera estimated at 11.3 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, while higher-performance variants use more. Even so, the 2026 Porsche 911 remains distinctive because it offers iconic design, a unique engine layout, and performance that can be tailored from everyday use to serious track work. 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
