Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA a good car?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA earns 8.5/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Technology.

Mercedes positions this compact fastback as an entry-level electric luxury car, and that framing fits the data: you get a quiet cabin, premium interior materials, and a strong technology focus in a package meant to be comfortable and easy to live with. The trade-offs are that the base powertrain is underwhelming and the design may not suit everyone.

Good and great deals percentage: 40.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent amount of shopping room.

Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA reliable?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA is presented as a comfortable, easy-to-live-with electric luxury sedan, and the expert assessment points to a smooth, confident ride rather than a stressed or complicated driving experience. The single-motor version is described as pleasant to drive, with a steel-sprung suspension that stays comfortable and composed, and the car’s charging and regenerative-braking systems are built around everyday usability.

Mercedes also says the CLA should come with the standard four-year/80,000-kilometre limited warranty, along with complimentary roadside assistance. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk should be more about early-model complexity and option content than basic day-to-day drivability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin can be equipped with different trim materials and lighting treatments, and the passenger-screen setup changes the interior look significantly. The base setup also uses a piece of plain-looking trim where the passenger screen would otherwise go, so you may want to check whether the car has the interior presentation you expect.
• Powertrain: The CLA is offered with a single-motor setup and a dual-motor setup. The single-motor version is the less powerful choice, while the dual-motor version adds much stronger output. Both use an 85-kWh battery, and the car is tuned for comfort and efficiency rather than hard acceleration.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring with exit assist, emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, and a class-exclusive centre airbag. Active steering, lane change assist, automatic lane change, a 360-degree camera system, and parking assist may require extra spending.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch driver display and a 14-inch centre display with the fourth-generation Mercedes MBUX system and MB.OS. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, OTA updates are supported, and augmented-reality navigation is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The single-motor CLA is rated at 673 kilometres on the WLTP cycle, while the dual-motor version is rated at 655 kilometres. Mercedes also says the car can add over 300 kilometres of range in 10 minutes on a high-speed DC charger, and go from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes.

Which 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA trim should I buy?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA is offered in 2 trim levels: CLA 250+ and CLA 350 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

• CLA 250+: This is the better-value choice if you want the CLA’s core appeal: a quiet cabin, premium materials, strong technology, and the more efficient single-motor setup. It is the version that best matches the car’s comfort-first personality.
• CLA 350 4Matic: Choose this if you want the stronger dual-motor powertrain and are willing to pay more for the extra performance. It suits you best if quicker acceleration matters more than value.

Advanced safety features are not standard, so check carefully for the driver-assistance equipment you want.

It also comes with expected standard driver aids including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring with exit assist, emergency braking, and traffic sign recognition.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

You may need to pay extra for active steering and lane change assist, as well as automatic lane change. A 360-degree camera system and parking assist system will also be available. Advanced safety features are not standard, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used example you’re considering.
