New & Used 2026 Mazda CX-5 for Sale nearNewmarket, ON

Is the 2026 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

The 2026 Mazda CX-5 earns a 7.2/10 expert rating, and it is clearly aimed at you if you want a compact SUV that looks sharp, feels upscale, and comes well equipped from the start. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Mazda’s redesign gives the CX-5 a more modern exterior and a cabin that feels more contemporary than before, while standard all-wheel drive and Google built-in help it feel generous on equipment. It is also longer, wider, more spacious, and more technologically advanced than the outgoing model, which makes it a stronger fit if you want a compact SUV with a premium feel and better day-to-day usability.

The trade-offs are just as clear. The carried-over 187-horsepower engine and six-speed automatic feel dated, and the drivetrain is described as underpowered and thirsty for the segment. That means the CX-5 makes more sense if style, interior quality, and value matter more to you than outright efficiency or performance.

With 14.7% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

The 2026 CX-5 is presented as a strong bet for dependable everyday use, with Mazda’s usual emphasis on solid build quality, improved insulation, and a well-executed redesign. The updated body structure, revised packaging, and standard safety hardware all point to a vehicle that should be well suited to regular commuting and family duty.

Mazda also backs the CX-5 with a standard three-year basic warranty and a five-year powertrain warranty, both with unlimited kilometres in Canada. That helps reduce long-term ownership anxiety, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for several years.

The powertrain itself is simple rather than complicated, which can be a plus for long-term ownership, but the lack of a hybrid option means fuel costs will remain a bigger part of the ownership equation. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is not mechanical complexity so much as living with a drivetrain that already feels behind the curve.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mazda CX-5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base GX trim gets the new design, standard AWD, and a strong safety suite, but its 17-inch wheels and simpler equipment make it feel less polished than the higher trims. The GS adds the features that make the CX-5 feel like a better value, while the GT brings more luxury-oriented touches.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses the carryover 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and a six-speed automatic. It is smooth enough in normal driving, but it feels underpowered in a heavier body and is not especially efficient.
• Safety package: Every trim includes adaptive cruise control with speed limit assist, automatic emergency braking with turn-across traffic detection and head-on collision mitigation, rear automatic emergency braking with rear cross-traffic alert and pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, blind spot monitors, vehicle exit warning, driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and dynamic guidelines for the rear-view camera. Some competitors reserve several of those features for higher trims.
• Infotainment: All trims get a 12.9-inch touchscreen, Google built-in, and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wired on the GX and wireless on the GS and GT. The GT can also be equipped with a 15.6-inch screen as part of the Premium Package.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the CX-5 at 9.9 L/100 km in the city, 7.9 L/100 km on the highway, and 9.0 L/100 km combined.

Which 2026 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2026 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 3 trim levels: GX, GS, and GT.

Here's the short version:

• GX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the new styling, standard AWD, Google built-in, and the full safety suite. It is the least expensive way into the redesigned CX-5, but it is also the most basic in feel.
• GS: This is the best-value trim. It adds the equipment that makes the CX-5 feel properly premium, including 19-inch wheels, a power liftgate, a head-up display, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 10-way power driver’s seat with memory.
• GT: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale CX-5 experience. It adds leather seating, a Bose 12-speaker audio system, and SiriusXM satellite radio, with the Premium Package bringing the larger screen, a 360-degree View Monitor, a driver monitoring system, and rear USB-C ports.

The GT also adds an adaptive front-lighting system, and the Premium Package includes front cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, Cruising & Traffic Support with Lane-Change Assist, a driver monitoring system, and the 360-degree View Monitor.

Is the 2026 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2026 CX-5 comes with one of the most comprehensive standard safety suites in its class. Every trim includes adaptive cruise control with speed limit assist, automatic emergency braking with turn-across traffic detection and head-on collision mitigation, rear automatic emergency braking with rear cross-traffic alert and pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, blind spot monitors, vehicle exit warning, driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and dynamic guidelines for the mandatory rear-view camera.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

That standard equipment is especially strong because several of those features are often reserved for higher trims in rival SUVs. The GT adds an adaptive front-lighting system, and the Premium Package adds front cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, Cruising & Traffic Support with Lane-Change Assist, a driver monitoring system, and a 360-degree View Monitor.

Should I buy a 2026 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 14.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• It gives you a full redesign with standard AWD, Google built-in, and a much more modern cabin.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It is a sporty, practical compact SUV with an enjoyable driving feel.

The bottom line: If you want the newest CX-5 with the biggest jump in style, tech, and standard equipment, the 2026 is the one to target. If you are more price-sensitive and can live with the older design, the 2025 remains the better value play for buyers who care more about saving money than getting the latest update.
