Why it stands out

The 2026 Mazda CX-30 stands out as a small crossover that leans into Mazda’s more premium, driver-focused character. It is the smallest crossover Mazda currently sells, and it remains a good fit for buyers who like small cars but prefer the higher seating position and practicality of a crossover. Mazda also positions it as an improvement over the CX-3 in nearly every meaningful way, with more space inside, a premium-quality interior, and a larger, more powerful engine.

For 2026, the CX-30 is offered with either a base naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 191 horsepower or an optional Skyactiv-G turbocharged engine with up to 250 hp. Mazda’s i-Activ all-wheel-drive system and G-Vectoring Control Plus are standard in later model years, and the model is not offered with a hybrid powertrain. The buying guide also notes that there haven’t been any major changes for the 2025 or 2026 model years, which makes the CX-30 appealing if you want a familiar package rather than a constantly changing one.

Its strengths are easy to see in the equipment and reputation it has built over time: a solid list of driver-assist safety features, top safety ratings from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and a stylish, fun-to-drive personality. The trade-offs are just as clear, though, with a cramped back seat and not much cargo space. For shoppers who value a polished interior and engaging road manners more than maximum room, the 2026 Mazda CX-30 remains a compelling choice.
