Summary

Why it stands out
The 2026 Hyundai Kona stands out because it combines a roomier cabin with a recognisable design and a broad spread of equipment. Hyundai says the second-generation Kona was launched for the 2024 model year with more room inside and greater cargo capacity, and the styling was updated while still remaining very recognisable as a Kona. For buyers who want a small SUV that feels more substantial than before, that extra space is a major part of the appeal.
The 2026 model also benefits from a well-rounded feature set. The Kona lineup includes a base 2.0-litre engine with 147 horsepower and a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine in the N Line, and front-wheel drive is standard on the lower trims with all-wheel drive optional there and standard on the N Line. Standard driver-assist features include forward collision warning with automatic braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, a lane centring system, and a rear seat reminder. Even the entry model comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED lights, keyless entry, heated front seats, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while higher trims add items such as adaptive cruise control, a wide sunroof, digital key technology, sportier styling details, and available navigation.
There are still some trade-offs to keep in mind. The base engine is not the most exciting choice, and the Kona’s strongest selling point is less outright performance than its mix of space, technology, and value. For shoppers who want a compact SUV that feels modern, offers useful standard equipment, and keeps the Kona’s distinctive character intact, the 2026 Hyundai Kona makes a strong case.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Kona a good car?
Generally — the 2026 Hyundai Kona earns a 4/5 user rating, which points to solid shopper satisfaction. It stands out for its roomier cabin, recognisable design, and broad spread of equipment, so if you want a small SUV that feels more substantial than before, it has a strong case. The standard feature set is especially useful, with driver-assist tech, heated front seats, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto all included. The trade-off is that the base engine is not especially exciting, so its appeal is more about space, technology, and value than outright performance. 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Is the 2026 Hyundai Kona reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2026 Hyundai Kona’s reliability case is supported by its well-rounded design and familiar, practical packaging rather than any single standout mechanical claim. It offers a broad spread of standard equipment, and the model’s emphasis on everyday usability suggests it is built to serve as a dependable small SUV for regular commuting and family use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a feature-rich compact SUV can be more expensive to keep satisfying if you expect stronger performance than the base engine delivers.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Hyundai Kona?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if the right trim and price show up.
- Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 419 listings available.
Should I buy a 2026 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2026 if:
- 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2025 if:
- It offers a mostly unchanged package with plenty of cargo space and standard safety features.
The bottom line: The 2026 Hyundai Kona is the better primary choice if you want the latest version of this roomy, well-equipped small SUV and you value its updated feature mix. If you are shopping mainly on price, the 2025 is worth a look because it delivers much of the same practical appeal and may be the more budget-friendly route.
