CarGurus Analysis: 2026 Hyundai Kona
overall
Summary
With 128 currently listed for sale and an average price of $33,283 CAD, 25.0% of 2026 Hyundai Kona listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2026 Hyundai Kona 4 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2026 Hyundai Kona stands out as a subcompact SUV that tries to balance style, space, and equipment without losing the Kona’s familiar identity. Hyundai gave the second-generation model more room inside and greater cargo capacity, and the updated shape is still recognisably a Kona. For buyers who want a small SUV that feels more substantial than before, that added practicality is a major part of the appeal.
The 2026 model year carries over the Kona’s broad spread of features and powertrains. The base 2.0-litre engine produces 147 horsepower through a continuously variable transmission, while the N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Standard equipment is generous, with driver-assist features such as forward collision warning with automatic braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, a lane centring system, and a rear seat reminder. The Essential trim also includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while higher trims add items such as adaptive cruise control, a heated steering wheel, a wide sunroof, digital key technology, and sportier styling details on the N Line.
There are still trade-offs to consider. The base engine is not especially lively, and the Kona’s strongest draw is less outright performance than the combination of useful technology, available all-wheel drive, and a cabin that is now more accommodating than before. For shoppers who want a small SUV with a distinctive look, a strong feature list, and more everyday usability than the earlier version, the 2026 Hyundai Kona makes a convincing case.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Kona a good car?
Generally — the 4/5 user rating suggests the 2026 Hyundai Kona lands well with shoppers who want a subcompact SUV that balances style, space, and equipment. Hyundai’s updated packaging gives you more room inside and greater cargo capacity, while the Kona’s familiar shape keeps it easy to recognise. If you want a small SUV that feels more substantial than before, that added practicality is a major part of the appeal. The 35.3% share of good or great deals also suggests there is meaningful market availability for value-minded buyers.
Is the 2026 Hyundai Kona reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2026 Hyundai Kona’s reliability case is supported by its carryover nature and its broad spread of standard equipment, including driver-assist features and a well-equipped base trim. The overview also points to a familiar second-generation package rather than a major redesign, which can be reassuring if you prefer a model with an established formula. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about novelty and more about choosing the right trim and powertrain for your needs.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Hyundai Kona?
The market looks moderately favourable if you are a selective buyer who is willing to compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 468 listings available.
That combination gives you enough choice to shop around without making the market feel overly tight. If you are focused on value, the current mix of deal pricing and available inventory makes this a reasonable time to start comparing examples.
Should I buy a 2026 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2026 if:
- 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2025 if:
- It is a mostly unchanged second-generation SUV with a practical, roomy feel.
The bottom line: The 2026 Hyundai Kona is the better pick if you want the latest version of the model’s roomy, well-equipped formula and you value the current market’s deal availability. If you are price-sensitive, the 2025 is worth a look because it delivers much of the same practical appeal in a familiar package.
