How much does the 2026 Honda HR-V cost?

Prices have softened 11.69% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 175 listings available, which suggests a decent amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V a good car?

The 2026 Honda HR-V earns an expert rating of 5.3/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

It is a straightforward subcompact SUV that prioritises ease of use over flash, and that makes sense if you want something simple and uncomplicated. The refreshed infotainment setup, comfortable driver’s seat, and strong safety ratings are clear positives, but the HR-V remains unremarkable overall.

The main trade-offs are sluggish performance and poor fuel economy. It also has an uncomfortable back seat, so if you regularly carry adults in the rear, you may want to look elsewhere.

With 37.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is some room to shop carefully and still find a competitive offer.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V reliable?

The 2026 Honda HR-V is presented as a simple, easy-to-live-with crossover, and that kind of straightforward design can be appealing if you want a vehicle that is not trying to do too much. Its 2.0-litre engine and CVT are described as working hard, and the model’s overall character is more about practicality than excitement.

From a dependability standpoint, the HR-V’s standard Honda Sensing suite is broad, but the expert review notes that the adaptive cruise control did not always behave as expected and sometimes required driver intervention. The powertrain is also described as gutless, which can make highway merging and passing more demanding.

Honda does not position this model with a standout value story such as lengthy warranty coverage or free connected services, so long-term ownership risk for used buyers is less about complexity and more about living with its modest performance and efficiency.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda HR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, Sport, and EX-L each bring different levels of visual appeal and cabin polish. The base trim is the most basic, while the EX-L adds the most upscale interior treatment and the most complete equipment set.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and a CVT. The review says it feels underpowered in real-world driving, especially when you need to merge, pass, or climb hills.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.
• Infotainment: The system uses a 9-inch touchscreen with a faster processor, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and a wireless smartphone charger. The base LX has four speakers, the Sport has six, and the EX-L has eight.
• Fuel efficiency: Official ratings say the HR-V uses 8.3 L/100 km with front-wheel drive or 8.7 L/100 km with AWD in combined driving. The review’s real-world test result was 9.5 L/100 km.

Which 2026 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda HR-V is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it is also the most stripped-back version. It makes sense only if you want the lowest starting point and are comfortable with the most basic audio setup and the least visual flair.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more equipment and a more distinctive look without pushing you all the way to the top price. If you want a balanced mix of features and value, this is the one to focus on.
• EX-L: This is the most upscale choice, with leather upholstery, upgraded cabin detailing, the best audio system, and the extra parking-sensor features. It suits you best if you care most about comfort and a more premium-feeling interior.

Front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda HR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings before moving quickly.

• Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 175 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.69% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,199 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $35,199 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,857 CAD.

That price movement suggests the HR-V has softened enough to give used buyers more negotiating room than they had a year ago. If you buy now and later sell, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim, since the market is already pricing in some depreciation. For a future seller, that means keeping the vehicle clean, well maintained, and well documented will matter even more.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V safe?

The 2026 Honda HR-V earns favourable ratings from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every HR-V, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. In Canada, blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.

The main caveat is that the adaptive cruise control did not always react as expected in testing, which meant the driver sometimes had to intervene. That does not erase the HR-V’s strong safety equipment, but it is worth keeping in mind if you rely heavily on driver-assistance features.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.69% compared with last year.
• The refreshed infotainment system, larger touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging, and updated styling matter to you.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version of the HR-V with the updated tech and a softer used-market price, the 2026 is the one to target. If you are mainly trying to minimise purchase cost, a nearby model year may still make sense, especially if you can live without the refresh-related upgrades.
