Is the 2026 Honda HR-V a good car?

The 2026 Honda HR-V earns a 5.33/10 expert rating, and it is best suited to you if you value simplicity, an easy-to-use cabin, and a comfortable driving position over excitement.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

It is straightforward and uncomplicated, with a comfortable driver’s seat and technology that is easy to live with. The refresh also brings a larger touchscreen, faster response times, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging. On the downside, it is sluggish, its fuel economy is poor, and the back seat is uncomfortable.

The market shows 35.7% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V reliable?

The 2026 Honda HR-V is presented as a simple, uncomplicated SUV, and that kind of straightforward design can be appealing if you want something easy to understand and live with.

Its 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and CVT are described as working hard, especially when you need to merge, pass, or climb hills. The expert notes also point to disappointing real-world fuel use, which can matter over time if you plan to keep the vehicle for the long haul.

Honda Sensing is standard, and the HR-V’s safety equipment is broad for the class. The main ownership risk for used buyers is that the same weaknesses that show up in testing — slow performance and weak efficiency — are likely to remain part of your day-to-day experience.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda HR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, Sport, and EX-L each bring different visual and comfort upgrades, and the base LX is the one most likely to feel stripped down because it has the fewest speakers and lacks the higher-trim interior upgrades.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT, and the HR-V is described as underpowered and hard-working, especially at highway speeds or on hills.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitors, and rear cross-traffic alert. Front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.
• Infotainment: The standard touchscreen is 9 inches, and it includes wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and a wireless smartphone charger. The LX has four speakers, the Sport has six, and the EX-L has eight.
• Fuel efficiency: Official ratings are 8.3 L/100 km with front-wheel drive or 8.7 L/100 km with AWD, and the test vehicle averaged 9.5 L/100 km.

Which 2026 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda HR-V is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it is the least richly equipped, with only four speakers and fewer of the visual and comfort upgrades found higher up the range.
• Sport: This is the best-value choice if you want a more complete everyday package, since it adds more audio hardware and some of the styling upgrades without pushing you all the way to the top trim.
• EX-L: This is the one to choose if you want the most upscale HR-V experience, with leather upholstery, the most speakers, extra cabin lighting and detailing, and the parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.

Honda Sensing is standard across the range, while front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda HR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 182 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.79% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,596 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $35,596 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,458 CAD.

That price movement suggests the HR-V has softened enough to give used buyers more negotiating room than they had a year ago. If you buy well now, you may be starting from a more favourable entry point than a previous owner did.

For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, trim, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. A clean, well-equipped example should still be easier to move than a neglected one, but the broader trend is not especially supportive of strong appreciation.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V safe?

The 2026 Honda HR-V earns favourable ratings from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the 2025 model year also scored a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. In Canada, blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard. Front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.

The expert testing also notes some shortcomings in the adaptive cruise control, including delayed reactions and occasional false responses in traffic. That means you should still pay close attention when using the driver-assistance features.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.79% compared with last year.
• You want the refreshed infotainment setup with a larger touchscreen, faster response times, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging.

The bottom line: If you want the newest HR-V with the updated tech package, the 2026 model is the one to target. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, especially if you can find a cleaner example with the equipment you want at a lower asking price.
