How much does the 2026 Honda HR-V cost?

Prices have softened 7.66% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 193 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V a good car?

The 2026 Honda HR-V earns an expert rating of 5.33/10.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

It is a straightforward subcompact SUV that suits you if you value ease of use over flash, with a comfortable driver’s seat and easy-to-use technology. The trade-offs are clear: it is sluggish, its fuel economy is poor, and the back seat is uncomfortable. Even so, the market still shows 37.3% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V reliable?

The 2026 Honda HR-V is presented as a simple, uncomplicated SUV, and that basic approach can be appealing if you want something easy to live with. Its expert assessment also points to a comfortable driver’s seat and easy-to-use technology, while the performance notes show a conventional 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine paired with a CVT and a multi-link rear suspension.

Honda also includes a broad set of standard driver-assistance features through Honda Sensing, and the tech package is straightforward rather than complicated. For long-term ownership, the main risk for used buyers is that the same weaknesses called out in testing — especially weak performance and poor fuel economy — are likely to remain part of the ownership experience.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda HR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, Sport, and EX-L each bring different equipment levels, and the biggest gap at the base trim is that the LX has only four speakers, while the Sport has six and the EX-L has eight. The EX-L also adds the most upscale cabin details, including genuine leather, perforated surfaces, and extra lighting touches.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. The engine is described as working hard, and the HR-V is called sluggish in real-world driving.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard in Canada, while front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.
• Infotainment: The standard touchscreen is 9 inches, and it includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus a wireless smartphone charger. Built-in navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio are not included.
• Fuel efficiency: Official Natural Resources Canada ratings say the HR-V uses 8.3 L/100 km with front-wheel drive or 8.7 L/100 km with AWD, and the test vehicle averaged 9.5 L/100 km.

Which 2026 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda HR-V is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it is the least equipped version, with only four speakers and the most basic presentation. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra convenience and cabin upgrades.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more audio hardware than the LX and keeps the HR-V’s core formula intact without pushing you all the way to the top price. If you want a balanced mix of equipment and cost, this is the one to focus on.
• EX-L: This is the most upscale choice, with leather upholstery, perforated surfaces, extra cabin lighting, an eight-speaker audio system, and the parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking. It suits you best if you want the most comfort and the most complete equipment list.

Honda Sensing is standard across the range, and the EX-L gets the extra parking-sensor and low-speed automatic braking features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda HR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings rather than rushing.

• Deal availability: 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 193 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.66% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $36,157 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $36,236 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,241 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the HR-V is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago. If you plan to sell later, you should expect the market to be more sensitive to condition, mileage, and trim level than it would be for a hotter-used model. For you as a future seller, that means keeping the vehicle clean, well maintained, and well documented will matter more if you want to protect value.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V safe?

The 2026 Honda HR-V earns favourable ratings from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and for the 2025 model year it also scored a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. In Canada, blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard. Front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.

There is one important caveat: the expert testing notes that adaptive cruise control did not always react as expected, including delayed responses and false detections that required driver intervention. That means you should treat the driver-assistance system as a helpful aid, not a substitute for attention.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.66% compared with last year.
• The refresh matters to you, especially the larger touchscreen, faster response times, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging.

The bottom line: If you want the newest HR-V with the updated infotainment and the current-year market softness, the 2026 is the one to target. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2026 gives you the freshest tech package and a market that is currently leaning in your favour.
