How much does the 2026 Honda HR-V cost?

Prices have softened 13.37% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 195 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V a good car?

The 2026 Honda HR-V earns an expert rating of 5.3/10. It is a simple, uncomplicated small SUV that prioritises ease of use, and the refresh adds a larger touchscreen with faster response times, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

That said, the HR-V’s sluggish performance and poor fuel economy are the main trade-offs, and the back seat is also described as uncomfortable. For you, that means the HR-V makes the most sense if you value straightforward controls, a comfortable driver’s seat, and a low-stress ownership experience more than speed or efficiency. The market shows 36.4% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V reliable?

The 2026 Honda HR-V is presented as a straightforward, easy-to-live-with small SUV, and its simple character is part of the appeal. The expert review also notes that the HR-V’s technology is easy to use and that the Honda Sensing suite is generally unobtrusive.

On the performance side, the 2.0-litre engine and CVT are described as working hard, especially when you need to merge, pass, or climb hills. The cost-effectiveness commentary also notes that the HR-V does not offer a compelling value story such as lengthy warranty coverage or free connected service plans.

For used buyers, the long-term risk is less about complexity and more about living with an underpowered powertrain and the possibility that the same weaknesses will still bother you after the novelty wears off.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda HR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, Sport, and EX-L differ most clearly in cabin finish and equipment. The LX has cloth seats and the fewest speakers, while the EX-L adds genuine leather, more cabin detailing, and the most upscale interior presentation.
• Powertrain: The HR-V uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and a CVT. It is described as underpowered, and the AWD setup is standard on the higher trims.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.
• Infotainment: The standard touchscreen is 9 inches, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included. The base LX has four speakers, the Sport has six, and the EX-L has eight.
• Fuel efficiency: Official ratings say the HR-V uses 8.3 L/100 km with front-wheel drive or 8.7 L/100 km with AWD, and the test loop returned 9.5 L/100 km.

Which 2026 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda HR-V is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it is the most basic version of the HR-V. You get the core HR-V formula, though the cabin and audio setup are the least well equipped.
• Sport: This is the trim that adds a bit more equipment without pushing you all the way to the top of the range, and it is the best-value choice if you want a more complete feature set without paying for the EX-L’s extras.
• EX-L: This is the most upscale version, with leather upholstery, the richest interior presentation, the eight-speaker audio system, and the parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.

Honda Sensing is standard across the range, while the parking sensors and low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda HR-V?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and focus on condition and equipment.

• Deal availability: 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 195 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.37% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,000 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $35,000 CAD sits slightly below last year's $40,400 CAD.

That price movement suggests the HR-V has softened enough to give used buyers more negotiating room than a year ago. If you buy now and keep the vehicle in good condition, you may be starting from a more favourable entry price than previous shoppers did. For a future seller, though, the same trend means resale value may not be especially strong if the market continues to favour buyers.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V safe?

The 2026 Honda HR-V earns favourable ratings from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and for the 2025 model year it also scored a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. In Canada, blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.

One caveat is that the adaptive cruise control did not always behave as expected in testing, including delayed reactions and occasional false detections that required driver intervention. That means the HR-V’s safety hardware is broad, but you should still stay engaged behind the wheel.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.37% compared with last year.
• The refresh matters to you, especially the larger touchscreen, faster response times, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging.

The bottom line: If you want the newest HR-V with the updated infotainment and current-year pricing, the 2026 is the one to target. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, especially if you can find a cleaner example with the equipment you want at a lower asking price.
