How much does the 2026 Honda HR-V cost?

Prices have softened 7.68% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V a good car?

The 2026 Honda HR-V earns an expert rating of 5.33/10.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

It is a simple, uncomplicated small SUV, and that straightforward character is part of its appeal if you want an easygoing, no-fuss vehicle. The 2026 refresh also brings a larger touchscreen, faster response times, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging, which helps the HR-V feel more current.

The trade-offs are clear: it is sluggish and poorly efficient, and the back seat is uncomfortable. That makes it better suited to you if you value approachable packaging and useful tech more than lively acceleration or standout fuel economy.

32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V reliable?

The 2026 Honda HR-V is presented as a straightforward, easy-to-live-with small SUV, and its simple formula is part of the appeal if you want a low-drama daily driver. Honda’s safety and driver-assist package is broad, and the HR-V’s mechanical setup is conventional rather than complicated.

Its 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and CVT are described as working hard, but the powertrain itself is not presented as fragile or overly complex. Honda also gives every HR-V a wireless smartphone charger and a refreshed infotainment system, which adds convenience without much complexity.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the same weaknesses that show up in testing — especially weak performance and disappointing fuel economy — are likely to remain part of the ownership experience.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda HR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX uses cloth seats and has the most basic cabin presentation, while the Sport adds different wheels and more speakers. The EX-L is the most upscale version, with genuine leather, perforated surfaces, Z-pattern stitching, upgraded cabin lighting, and the most polished interior detailing.
• Powertrain: Every HR-V uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT. Front-wheel drive is standard on the LX, while all-wheel drive is standard on the other trims and costs extra on the LX. The engine is described as underpowered, and fuel consumption is not a strength.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.
• Infotainment: The standard touchscreen is 9 inches, and the system adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus a wireless smartphone charger. The LX has four speakers, the Sport has six, and the EX-L has eight. Built-in navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio are not included.
• Fuel efficiency: Official ratings are 8.3 L/100 km combined with front-wheel drive and 8.7 L/100 km combined with all-wheel drive. In testing, it averaged 9.5 L/100 km.

Which 2026 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda HR-V is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core HR-V experience at the lowest price. It makes the most sense if you want the simplest version and are comfortable with the most basic audio setup and front-wheel drive unless you pay extra for AWD.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds standard AWD, more speakers, and a bit more visual presence without moving all the way to the top of the range.
• EX-L: This is the most upscale choice, with leather upholstery, the best cabin detailing, the most speakers, and the extra parking-sensor and low-speed automatic braking features. It suits you if you want the most comfort and convenience the HR-V offers.

Front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking are exclusive to the EX-L.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda HR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you should be able to shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 178 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.68% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $36,164 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $36,769 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,827 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the HR-V is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago. If you plan to sell later, you should expect the market to remain sensitive to condition, mileage, and trim because the model’s value story is being held back by its weak performance and fuel economy. On the other hand, a well-kept example with desirable equipment should still be easier to move than a stripped, less-equipped one.

Is the 2026 Honda HR-V safe?

The 2026 Honda HR-V earns favourable ratings from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). For the 2025 model year, the HR-V also scored a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every HR-V, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. In Canada, blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard.

There are some caveats to keep in mind. The adaptive cruise control did not always react as expected in testing, and the EX-L is the only trim with front and rear parking sensors plus low-speed automatic braking.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.68% compared with last year.
• The refresh matters to you, especially the larger touchscreen, faster response times, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging.

The bottom line: If you want the newest HR-V with the updated infotainment and the current-year styling tweaks, the 2026 is the one to target. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth considering, especially if you can find a cleaner example with the equipment you want at a lower asking price.
