How much does the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 17.74% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 773 listings available, which suggests healthy inventory for you to compare trims and prices.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a good car?

The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earns an expert rating of 5.33/10.

The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

It is aimed at you if you want a full-size pickup with broad configuration choice, a spacious cabin, an easy-to-use interface, and the uncommon availability of a diesel engine. The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and concerning safety ratings, plus blind-spot warning is not standard. It also falls short in performance and towing technology, which matters if you expect a truck to be strong across the board.

With 38.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 reliable?

The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is positioned as a broad-appeal full-size pickup, but the available information points to weaknesses in fuel economy, safety, and towing technology that matter for long-term ownership.

Its expert assessment also notes that the truck is competent in everyday use, but the TurboMax engine’s real-world fuel economy is disappointing and the brake overheating warning during mountain driving is worth keeping in mind if you plan to tow or haul regularly. The Duramax diesel is the efficiency-minded alternative, and that can make a difference if you rack up a lot of kilometres.

If you buy used, the main long-term risk is that a truck with this much capability can still leave you with higher operating costs and less confidence than rivals if you need strong towing, safety, and efficiency all at once.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup is broad, and the base WT, Custom, and Custom Trail Boss have a more basic dashboard than the other trims. If you want the more modern cabin and stronger in-cab technology, you should focus on trims above those entry versions.
• Powertrain: You can shop turbocharged four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel six-cylinder, and V8 options. The TurboMax 2.7-litre four-cylinder delivers 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, while the Duramax 3.0-litre turbodiesel is the efficiency-focused choice and is rated at 10.1 L/100 km with 4WD in combined driving.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard on every Silverado 1500 trim level and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, lane centring assist, adaptive cruise control, and Super Cruise are not part of the standard setup on the test truck.
• Infotainment: All other Silverados benefit from a 12.3-inch digital display and a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google Built-in, Google Maps, Google Play Store access, Google Assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The TurboMax was expected to return 12.8 L/100 km in combined driving, but the test truck averaged 15.3 L/100 km on a mountainous route and 16.2 L/100 km in city-only driving. The Duramax is rated at 10.1 L/100 km with 4WD in combined driving.

Which 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 9 trim levels: WT, Custom, LT, RST, Custom Trail Boss, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the work-focused starting point, and it makes sense if you want the Silverado’s core utility without paying for extra comfort or tech.
• Custom: Choose this if you want a step up from the WT while staying on the value side of the lineup.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it moves you into the more modern cabin and stronger technology without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• RST: This is the trim used in the expert test drive, and it suits you if you want the more sophisticated dashboard, the 12.3-inch digital display, the 13.4-inch touchscreen, and the Google Built-in setup.
• Custom Trail Boss: Pick this if you want a more distinctive trim name and the content explicitly places it among the more basic dashboard versions.
• LT Trail Boss: This is the choice if you want to move up from the entry trims while staying within the Trail Boss family.
• LTZ: This is for you if you want a more upscale Silverado experience than the volume trims provide.
• High Country: This is the premium comfort-oriented choice in the lineup.
• ZR2: This is the most specialised trim in the range and sits at the top of the roster.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard on every Silverado 1500 trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop carefully and compare listings rather than rushing.

• Deal availability: 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 773 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.74% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $66,829 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $66,829 CAD sits slightly below last year's $81,242 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Silverado 1500 is currently in a softer resale position than it was a year ago. If you are planning to sell later, you may face more competition from similarly equipped trucks and a market that is still adjusting to the model’s current pricing.

For you as a future seller, that means condition, mileage, and trim choice will matter a lot. A well-kept truck with desirable equipment should still hold appeal, but the current trend points to a market that is more favourable to buyers than sellers.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 safe?

The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earns a “Marginal” rating in the small overlap front evaluation, a “Poor” rating in the updated moderate overlap frontal impact test, and an “Acceptable” rating in the updated side impact test from IIHS.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard on every Silverado 1500 trim level, and it includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. The truck also includes a rear-seat reminder system, Buckle to Drive, and Teen Driver technology.

The main caveat is that the Silverado’s safety results trail key rivals, and the test truck lacked blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, lane centring assist, adaptive cruise control, and Super Cruise. That leaves you with a standard safety package that is useful, but not especially comprehensive for the class.

Should I buy a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 38.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.74% compared with last year.
• Chevy’s own summary says the 2026 Silverado 1500 still stands out for its diesel option and impressive in-cab technology, even though it falls short in performance, fuel economy, safety, and towing technology.

The bottom line: If you want the current-year truck and you value the diesel option, the strong cabin tech, and a softer price environment, the 2026 makes sense. If you are especially price-sensitive, you should keep shopping carefully and focus on the best-equipped listings that land near the low end of the current range.
