Is the 2025 Volvo XC40 a good car?

Yes — the 2025 Volvo XC40 earns a 5/5 user rating, and it fits well if you want a compact SUV that feels more premium than its size suggests. It is described as practical, stylish, and well equipped, with a high-end minimalist interior, quality materials, leather upholstery, and thoughtful cabin details. You also get impressive rear seat room for its footprint and a large cargo area with a useful folding floor divider, which makes it easy to live with day to day.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC40 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC40 is described as having some reliability concerns, but it has also proven quite reliable overall. Its mature first-generation status and the updates it has accumulated over time are part of what support its reputation, especially for buyers who want a well-developed small luxury SUV.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that you should still inspect the vehicle carefully and confirm it has been maintained properly, since any premium compact SUV can become costly if deferred issues are left unchecked.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Volvo XC40?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right example.

• Deal availability: 17.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 86 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.60% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $39,893 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Volvo XC40's resale value?

The current average of $41,393 CAD sits slightly below last year's $47,907 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about pricing if they want to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. The XC40’s premium feel and practical packaging should help it remain appealing to used shoppers who want a small luxury SUV with a distinctive personality.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2025 Volvo XC40 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 17.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the most current version of this model-year XC40 at a softer price than last year, the 2025 is the one to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing for a lower entry point, but the 2025 remains the better primary choice if you value the latest market conditions and a strong satisfaction signal.
