Is the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan earns an expert rating of 6.00/10.

The model scores 6/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

It is a redesigned compact SUV that gets the fundamentals right, with a German look and feel and a cabin that should be easier to live with day to day thanks to the updated interface. It is also the only sub-luxury German option in its class, which gives it a clear identity even if it does not separate itself much from the crowded compact SUV field.

The main trade-offs are that it is more competent than distinctive, and it is held back by not much cargo space.

With 33.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is presented as a comprehensive improvement over its predecessor, with a quieter cabin and a more polished day-to-day feel. Volkswagen also corrected the last generation’s user interface issues, which should help reduce frustration in regular use.

Its powertrain is described as smoother and more linear than before, with fewer surges or slow reactions, and the braking and suspension tuning are aimed at comfort and confidence rather than fussiness. The expert assessment also notes that the safety and driver-assist features worked as they should during testing, without false alarms or oversensitivity.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that it is still a newer redesign, so you should pay close attention to how the cabin electronics and driver-assist systems behave over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim gets the standard digital instrument panel and 12.9-inch touchscreen, while the top trim adds an illuminated VW badge and light bar, plus a 15-inch display and native navigation. The base model is well equipped, but the higher trims add more visual polish and convenience.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 201 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is standard in Canada. The setup is tuned more for smoothness and comfort than sporty driving.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, safe passenger exit warnings, parking sensors, automatic high beams, Emergency Assist, and post-collision braking. The top trim adds a head-up display, surround-view camera system, and a traffic sign reader.
• Infotainment: All models get a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, a digital instrument panel, standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless phone charger. The top trim adds a 15-inch display with native navigation, and VW’s Car-Net system is also offered.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates fuel consumption at 10.5 L/100 km in the city, 7.8 L/100 km on the highway, and 9.3 L/100 km combined.

Which 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: Trendline, Comfortline, Comfortline R-Line, Highline R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• Trendline: This is the best-value choice if you want the Tiguan’s core strengths without paying for extras you may not need. It comes very well equipped, and the standard safety and tech features should satisfy most shoppers.
• Comfortline: This is the step-up trim if you want a little more equipment and a more upscale feel without jumping to the top end of the range.
• Comfortline R-Line: This trim adds the sport appearance package, so it suits you if styling matters more than value.
• Highline R-Line: This is the most feature-rich version, adding the 15-inch display, native navigation, head-up display, surround-view camera system, traffic sign reader, and illuminated exterior details. It is the one to choose if you want the most premium presentation.

The standard safety package is strong across the range, while the top trim adds extra driver-assistance and visibility features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 847 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.71% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $39,762 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $39,762 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,034 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to be realistic on asking price. If you own one, strong condition and a well-documented service history should matter more when it comes time to resell. For future sellers, the current trend points to softer pricing pressure than a year ago.

Should I buy a 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.71% compared with last year.
• It corrects the last generation’s user interface issues while delivering a more refined cabin.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $29,496 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $39,762 CAD average.
• It offers stylish design, good handling, and strong value for shoppers who want a polished mainstream SUV.

The bottom line: Choose the 2025 if you want the redesigned Tiguan’s updated cabin, smoother power delivery, and broader appeal. If your priority is saving money, the 2024 is the better value play, especially if you can live without the newer model’s refinements.
