Why it stands out
The 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross stands out as a practical, affordable subcompact SUV that brings extra versatility to the Corolla nameplate. Its crossover body gives it a higher ride height, more passenger room, and more cargo space than the conventional Corolla, while the exterior adds a black grille, a chiseled front fascia with LED headlights, and prominent fender flares. It is also easy to understand at a glance, with a simple trim walk that keeps the outside relatively restrained apart from wheel differences.
Under the hood, the 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross uses a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 169 horsepower and paired with a continuously variable transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is available on the L and LE trims and standard on the XLE. The AWD system can send up to 50% of torque to the rear wheels when needed and can disengage when it is not, helping fuel efficiency. Natural Resources Canada rated it at 7.3 litres per 100 kilometres combined with FWD and 7.8 L/100 km combined with AWD. Inside, the Corolla Cross offers a familiar layout, rear-seat vents, and useful cargo capacity, with 680 litres behind the rear seats with FWD or 609 litres with AWD.
The 2025 model also benefits from the updates that arrived for the 2023 model year, including Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and an updated infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an eight-inch screen, and USB-C ports. That makes it feel more current than the first model year, while still keeping the Corolla Cross’s straightforward formula intact. Its strengths are clear: affordability, reliability, and impressive standard safety equipment. The trade-offs are just as clear, with an underpowered feel, a stiff ride, and some reported interior rattles.

I literally just bought this vehicle today so I’m just learning about all of the great features. I’m already impressed by technology , especially the Toyota mobile app. I can lock, unlock and remote start the vehicle. Being a base model it is missing some extras however, I’m not concerned. The interior is well designed, the dash and display fairly easy to access. It’ll take a little bit to get used to using the display but so far it seems user friendly. The interior feels comfortable as far as space. Seats fairly comfortable with plenty of leg room front and back. Nice cargo area and the back seats fold down. I needed a decent amount of cargo space for my makeup gear, camping and I’ll be able to attach a rack on top for a kayak. The hight of this vehicle is great for getting a kayak on the top because it’s not as high as the RAV 4 or other full size SUVs. As far as value, time will tell. Is anything missing? Again time will tell but it is a base model so it doesn’t have all the features of higher trims. This is the baby if a RAV 4 and a Corolla had a baby.
